I know there are products that under-perform and they get stuck with hundreds/thousands of units warming shelves in warehouses - but why intentionally limit the number of a piece like this (that any ***** could have told them would be a hot seller) and intentionally make far less money. The Bay scalpers (which probably account for half the units sold) will be making a mint on this one...
Underproduce a couple figures so that folk never know if they will miss out when PO'ing figures in future. Folk will po everything out of fomo

Sideshow (or is was Hot Toys?) was more precise when recreating its rendition of non-cartoon arc trooper armor. Why did they leave this era of high attention to detail..? Feels like production numbers /scaling > design/aesthetics

It's sad to look at ebay and see multiple sold, multiple still available from some sellers and know you had no chance of getting one.
And this isn't from China alone. There's some guy in Italy who sold 4. Sideshow should limit to one per person/address or use some form of id credentials to limit these.
Or with a different approach: pre-registration based on 'credits'. Faithful buyers/active members get more chance of getting in. People who only join for the exclusives/brand new accounts get lower chances.

This was a Sideshow figure back when they were actively still in the 1/6 Star Wars game. Agreed this was a quality figure and hopefully Hot Toys will make Fives at some point.

Sideshow’s figures look good in their promo shots the actual products weren’t great. I had a few the weathering was poorly applied and the great big bobble heads on skinny unstable disproportionate bodies. I swore off 1/6 figures because of them. Sold my Sideshow stuff as soon as HT got the SW license and it was a whole new world never regretted it. It looks cool in photos but you don’t want to pose it.

Sideshow never were close to say Hot Toys. They had some good ones like their last 1:6 Darth Maul but it was never on par with say dx16.

Pretty sure this and other exclusives are limited to 1 per account when buying from Sideshow, no such restrictions buying from HK/ebay ofc.

The Sideshow clones were made by Hot Toys. It’s obvious that their quality has come a long way since then, though.

Yep. But somehow the bodies sucked (IIRC HT developed the bodies but sideshow manufactured them so usual sideshow downgrade. The figures outside of floppiness are pretty good though. Sideshow phase 1 helmet was better sized and sculpted than HT, their phase 1.5 was far more accurate than HT, their phase 1 rex had the actual movie style pauldron, the ARC pauldrons on Sideshow ARC's are better sized etc etc etc. Still lots to love about Sideshows clones. Body swapping the floppy bodies will also improve them greatly.

HT may be far better quality (I mean, they did have like a decade to improve upon Sideshows ones) but their attention to detail is lacking. They use the same weapons Sideshow did (the non movie ones that never appeared on screen), they missed out details such as the "=" on the 501st troopers chest, the phase 1 and 1.5 helmets as discussed ad nauseum and so on. They come so close to perfection yet somehow in certain areas 10 year old figures by Sideshow of all brands did things better. Weird and frustrating.

Per account. Easily bypassed with multiple accounts.
True, I just do not seeing anyone doing that during the 20 minutes this was up for sale at Sideshow and managing to get one on 4 accounts. It's most likely his HK haul.

Their clones were very close, and in some instances superior (eg phase I helmet; echo helmet), to Hot Toys. Head-sculpts are awful though. They’ve upped their game with their Eastwood-series figures. Josey Wales was just too good to pass.

What's the fuss about with this Battlefront's cosmetic clone ? I love clones in general but this one generates seriously zero interest for me, working bee ARC trooper is not my cup of tea though.

I personally think it’s a really cool design. Out of the 4 versions to choose from, it seems like 95% of everyone in the game uses the Umbra skin.

I think what makes it interesting is the black instead of white, which in the game made it not stick out like a sore thumb. To be fair the yellow wasn’t quite as bright as Hot Toys has done. I never really saw it as a 🐝 but I can see where you’re coming from.

Really happy for folks (around here) that got this. It's a fine looking trooper but not one that ever got me to budge. I remember the Black Series version and all the Hell with that one.

I like the shade of yellow/orange. It's the flat black that I think never brought it to its full potential, visually. A medium Grey imo. Yes.
