We haven't seen what Queen will ultimately deliver at this scale so verdict is out... but one can assume it will be quite good even if it doesn't live up to the proto.

I would think Asmus is aware of Queen's plans and has been discussing their Crown Line's future. Perhaps if they can bring the price down they may have a chance to compete for a less demanding audience. But let's face it -- this hobby is all about OCD exactness, so no one wants to miss out on a superior product that is near the same price.

How much was Crown Gandalf? The standard Queen Gandalf should be around $300.

Crown Gandalf price was around 350 + Shipping and taxes

Crown Gandalf is $350 plus shipping on SS. All Queen needs to do is release one with a properly fitted hat and accurate eyes and that's $400+ a figure in the bank.

Asmus should focus on it's strengths as you've said, it's Morgul Lord, Nazgul, Mouth of Sauron etc. looked good so hurry up and give us a 1/6 Sauron.

Asmus needs to either bring their price down or sort out whatever mess they have with their production factory. Their prototypes are generally great looking but good lord do they take a nose dive once they're hit with the ugly stick in production.

Gandalf? Sculpt is almost completely changed due to their inability to mass produce a quality PERS system, hair color is changed from grey to white, hat is laughably bad and the base looks like something you would find at a fish pet store. Legolas has his sculpt changed with no warning and his hair color changed to Crayola yellow. I won't even get into whatever the hell the whole Ash figure was.

Asmus is very much like Star Ace to me. A company who shows great prototypes, charges like they're Hot Toys but then produces figures that don't even come close to their asking price. Sideshow is on par with them as well. Selling overpriced prototypes that look great but then can't follow up with it once production comes around.

Asmus is in trouble if Queen can produce what they're showing.

Actually I canceled my Legolas preorder.
I don’t trust Asmus
Please don’t mention Star Ace, Selene prototype was almost perfect and the production was an abomination

Asmus has had a very good run -- near 10 years. Most companies never get that far. The ones that do are usually usurped by that time. Asmus has provided the full Fellowship, as well as an army of other figures no one thought would ever get made (Gothmog and Mouth of Sauron).

But with Queen entering 1/6th, if I was Asmus, I would focus on secondary characters and battle-damaged or alternate outfit versions of the main heroes. And VILLAINS! And price them accordingly like they used to -- well below $200. That niche they could keep for a very long time. LOTR is rich with characters.

I can't wait to see an amazing Orlando Bloom as Legolas sculpt from Queen.

Getting warm feelings remembering when I read the trilogy right after Fellowship came out, counting the months before The Two Towers came out.

I think the problem with that is that secondary characters likely have a much smaller production run compared to the main cast, which makes it hard to maintain the same cost. It's all just speculation on my part of course, but I could imagine their profit margins are higher on main cast characters than secondary. So if they only do the latter, their prices would probably have to increase quite quickly, which again reduces the number they can sell.
It's the same problem I think Sideshow has with Star Wars, and people wanting them to focus on aliens and "background characters". If their ROTJ Luke costs the same as a HT, how would they be able to make characters like Hammerhead for less, if their sales are probably a fraction of main characters?

Yep, the GTG prototype was honestly perfect and the dropoff from production is just insane. I've been trying to get rid of my Crown Gandalf for a few weeks now with no luck lol.

I don't think that's true, am thrilled with my Sideshow Obi-Wan, and even the floppy body Jawas. Re ASMUS I remain thrilled with Thorin, Elrond, Galadriel, Gimli, Theoden, MOS, Twilight King, etc. and the worst I can say is Aragorn and Legolas could have better sculpts. Again, for the price point IMO we got a lot, as well as a company that interacts with the fans (and diecast weapons!).

Dunno if I'll race to pay just for hair and a nice sculpt, really, since, say, both my Gandalfs came accessory loaded. Just don't know if I wanna start another line $$$$ when there's stuff like Mandalorian also competing for my dollars. Like, hopefully, a Thranduil on throne and some Hobbit dwarves. I'd like the ASMUS Nazgul, too. Also there's nothing to stop ASMUS from redoing heads and putting them out for sale if they want.

Its difficult to accept something new sometimes. Change hurts.

I wish InArt would at least show a prototype Gandalf soon. My Asmus Gandalf is on flex pay. I’d like to know how theirs looks and the price so I can decide whether or not to cancel.

They said he's next and to be shown by May, right? I would think they'll want a little breathing room after Joker sales.

With Asmus quality control issues and Queen doing LOTR figures, Asmus is REALLY gonna need to up their game if they want to be doing LOTR figures.
