I thought the same thing also th whole thing is a little too uniform in shine/sweat. there's no question about who this is supposed to be though, I totally see the likeness brought out in this one, that bottom pic is totally him.
Oh ok, cool, is that the HT revolver?
Yes. At first I thought the SS revolver was better but when I compared the two, I thought the chamber on the HT revolver looked more realistic.
But the pistol,by far, HT had a better product.
It's weird how making the figures face shiny helps the likeness and the proportions and little touches look amazing here but i finally figured out what I think looks odd about it after looking at it for awhile. His shirt needs sweat stains to really make the sweating effect look natural. I think that would really sell me on this.
Great custom none the less!!
Totally agree, I was starting to dirty the shirt but after drying has not been sufficiently dirty. I need to insist on it. The problem of uniform sweat is because the areas where the brightness of the varnish is present, is not well placed at all and gives the feeling that everything shines when really there are matte areas in his face.
Looks great man. What did you use pastels or paint?
Yes. At first I thought the SS revolver was better but when I compared the two, I thought the chamber on the HT revolver looked more realistic.
But the pistol,by far, HT had a better product.
Trust me RJ, it only looks that dark in that lighting I used, sometimes I can't tell if I actually did anything in natural light, it's that subtle of a effect in person, btw like the dirty shirt, did you soak it in something, might try itGuyver1, take care, the stubble looks so dark
Revised the sweat effect and dirty shirt
Thanks for the comparison, yeesh! Thank god for HT, that medicom looks like something Fisher price would make. It's sad too, because I used to like medicom before HT and SSC.Yeah, the HT revolver is much more screen accurate as well. There were actually two different props used in the film. HT's is obviously based on the Smith and Wesson Hand Ejector 2nd Model “Bapty” with the ramped front sight:
This is the gun that Indy actually "uses" throughout the film as the prop could actually fire blanks.
SS's revolver seems to be based on the other prop used, the Smith and Wesson 1917 “Stembridge”. It's very similar, but has a rounded front sight that was attached to the prop, note the removal of the bluing on the tip of the barrel. This non-firing prop was used in the "cautious fellow" scene, when Indy tosses it into his suitcase, and also in the opening sequence when he relinquishes his gun to Belloq.
It appears as if SS misinterpreted the removal of the bluing and gave the barrel a flanged tip. They also got the handgrips wrong.
(L to R: SS, HT, Medicom)
One other point to mention is that the cylinder on the HT opens a lot easier. I opened my SS once and damn near broke it.
I know I posted this once before, but I thought it beared repeating in light of recent posts.
