Well... I am kind of perplexed on which way my brain should approach this.

I have thoroughly enjoyed making these items for everyone and no matter if it is a member of the forum or Nathan himself..I put all that I have into it. I am proud to have one of my dusters be a part of this wonderful project. Its even more satisfying to see what upgrades have been done to it since it has left my hands.(weathering and clasps). Great job with it everyone....
Now I know Shadow isnt trying to start waves and I kind of see where he is coming from but lets keep one thing perfectly clear...this project has always been about offering Mal from the fans to Nathan himself. It has always been about contribution from the bare bones level with the recruitment of talents from every part of this hobby.

KUDOS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPLIED PARTS TO THE MAL FOR NATHAN PROJECT.

Don't think for one minute that just because you dont have a direct hand in this Mal that your opinions havent been heard. That too is equally as important and I appreciate everyone's critiques and opinions.

KUDOS TO THOSE OF YOU......

Now the Kato issue...
Kato does some fantastic work and they are all pieces of art in their own way. I am a big fan!!! My opinon and its my opinion...the Mal for Nathan has NEVER been about chipping in financially to put together Mal. It is about the creativity from everyone chipping in to give Nathan just a little something as a "thanks".

Sure..we could have commissioned Kato to make the entire outfit and it would be something wonderful.(cant deny that)but thats NOT what this has been about.

The whole firefly threads would never have reached this stage of Trevor expanding the crew with his headsclupts and boots or Stevo's rigs...for example. I may have never gone further than Mal' duster or Zoe's vest if it wasnt for the pure enjoyment everyone has received from these items. We have seen dioramas being built, custom sculpted revolvers, bashing tips, hints and ideas from every angle imaginable.

THAT MY FELLOW SSF MEMBERS IS WHAT THE MAL FOR NATHAN AND THE WHOLE FIREFLY FOLLOWING HAS BEEN ABOUT.

RAMBLE...RAMBLE...RAMBLE......I know

I think I have said my share....I dont say much usually but when I do...I do let loose.

Very well said, Chad. I completely agree.:goodpost::hi5:

regarding the quest for 1:6 scale perfection...let's not forget my headsculpt is too big to begin with. :)

We'll be going with Chad's duster, and I think I speak for all of us when I say I'm proud to have it included on Fillion's Mal.

Trev, none of this would have been possible if not for you. You should sit back and look at the creativity you have inspired with your work and feel extremely satisfied.
On behalf of everyone, thank you.

+1.

I don't have the current mojo going to finish all the figures, but I am stockpiling the heads until I do.

Yea, I still disagree. Presumably people are going to enjoy and want to talk about thier Kato duster when they get that too, so Chad's post holds just as much water in this case as well. The only difference is it is more accurate.

They are still fan made. I had to modify them to work.
Ok, but there are other shirts and pants available that are 100% made by fans. If the fact that a fan made it somehow makes an item better, then according to this logic we should go with those. You know why we didn't? Becuase the Sideshow and Hot Toys pieces look better.

If the goal here was to just give Nathan something made by the fans, we could have sculpted a stick figure out of play dough and told him it was Mal. But no, every step of the way making this figure look as accurate as possible has been a clear priority. From following Marfmaster's awsome recepie, getting rid of Stevo's belt for the Vons Stauffenburg one, to ditching the Newline boots in favor of more accurate ones sculpted by Trevor. In all of those cases we could have cut a couple corners and still made something that looked pretty good, but no; settling is something we have been unwilling to do. and thats a good thing. Considering that this is going to Nathan, it should be the best that it could possibly be.

How is this situation any different at all?

WOW Shad, you're taking this way to personal. Granted, Kato is a very gifted tailor, but so is Chad. If this thread has decided to go with a duster made and donated by Chad why should you care so much? Chad has been a part of this project from the start. He has supplied all of us non-sewers many critical items for our bashes at reasonable prices, and I for one feel he is a major part of the whole Firefly project. Also the stick figure comment was a crude and unkind reference.

Amen.

i think we are privaledged to the information regarding this gift to Nathan. Ultimately, it is Trev and Silent's contacts that created this opportunity. I don't think its really anyone else's place to tell them who's stuff to use and not use.

I personally really respect the guys for utilizing the various skills of members of the forum. I also really respect they are using items from people who have really helped perpetuate the Firefly "line". Without Chad's stuff, many people might be stuck finishing Mal, which might have made future releases from Trevor less economically viable to make, I don't know.

I also like that they are giving Nathan something that is really fancy, but isn't something dipped in gold.

I care becuase Nathan really does deserve the apsolute best with this project, and up until now everyone else has viewed that as priority as well; and has gone above and beyond to ensure perfection. But suddenly when this matter came up, everyone's attitudes have changed to "well it doesn't need to be perfect, so long as it comes from the fans". It makes no sense to work so hard to attain perfection in every aspect of this figure and then be willing to settle on the coat.

And so far the only reasoning here seems to be loyalty to Chad. Where was our loyalty to Stevo when people discovered that the Von Stauffenburg belt was better?

Im not really sure how the stick figure was rude. Its a metaphor.

AFAIK Stevo is not really a "community member". So the loyalty doesn't really apply. From your perspective maybe that seems hypocritical, but from the giver of the gift it doesn't and thats what matters.

I hope we can move past this soon, because its sorta bringing the fun of following this process down.

We are still using stevo's holster and gun. Just because we changed out the belt doesn't mean we are completely scraping his stuff. A $10 upgrade doesn't compare to completely scraping 3 peoples work on a jacket that a fan donated to upgrading to a $200+ jacket that might not even get made.

And this isn't loyalty to Chad from me. I haven't bought a single piece from him. I respect his work and what he has done for these bashes and think his jacket works really well.

BREAK IT UP...BREAK IT UP....

I am sure that everyone understands where everyone is coming from...in all respects. I know Shadow doesnt mean anything by it..just making a point. He is on my list for a Duster so I know he isnt hitting me with a flagrant foul or trying to demean the works and contribuitions from everyone.(Do you still need the duster or are you going to jump on a Kato one? that way I know)

I think to this point we should just move on and keep this thread where it needs to be...and that's to the finalization of this dream collabo...project and get this Mal off to Nathan.

With all of this subtopic chatter going on....where the heck is Mal right now in the chain of things?

Oh my, this thread has gone in a bad direction since I last visited.

Yes, lets do, please, cut the crap as of now. Everyone has had their say, and those who have been in this since the beginning have decided. Any rebuttal at this point is purely for argument's sake, and should be ignored, not quoted and rebutted further.

All the clothes are made and look great, the parts sculpted, built and painted, and this project is officially DONE!!!

Nathan Fillion is a very sincere and sweet guy. We can't imagine him not liking this, and that's why we all committed our best personal efforts to honor him. Job well done all of us.

Trev, this project will be on its way to you this week.

Pics soon :impatient:(busy weekend).

Did anyone read the interview with Nathan in one of those Sunday Paper minizines yesterday? "Parade" I think it was? In it, it says that he displays all the action figures made of his characters along with some props he snagged from his shows. How many figures are there of him? I only know of the Razors Edge minibust.

Found the link!
