I know before the final jacket was actually revealed everyone was so sure that real leather was the way to go. When I found this thread I already knew those in favor of real leather would be let down when the final product came out. I feel though pleather material has gotten much better with hot toys's stuff. But with other companies, I wouldn't know.
Honestly now, what figures in the past have some of you guys had where the pleather just rotted off. I don't have much leather clothes figures, but the one I have is the DX Terminator with the minigun from Hot Toys that came out around 2012-2014. Up to this day his pleather clothes are still fine, no deterioration signs. Handling that figure is rough but nothing so far flaked off. I assumed over the years Hot Toys started using different kinds pleather that withstood time and handling. The other figure I have that uses pleather is hot toys's very first dx joker figure with the grenades back in 2009. It's only pleather piece was the strap that was meant for holding the string end tied onto the grenades. I never touched or used the leather strap once, but over time the brown pleather coat just flaked off.
But going back to the Terminator figure I have which was all pleather clothing, i can only assume that it's made of a stronger pleather material since it withstood time and rough handling.
For Claire I thought real leather was just the wrong material, mainly because I'm basing its comparison to Hot Toys's DX Terminator and the later Hot Toys figures that came out.
What figure have you guys had in the past and how long ago did they release? How long did the pleather last before it started to rot?
