I do not even care how screwed up
this gets, the near impossible nature of making a custom stopped my from doing it more than once.
The fact that 80 of the costume it present, and we can mod the rest is good enough for me.
My furiosa was the same way, body swap, some paint and I love my modded one.

Pre-ordered at KGHobby and pretty damn excited about it!!
Now I need to pick up a Furiosa and Hardy Max

The Immortan Joe announcement prompted me to look at my Fury Road figures again.

I have two of VTS' Max and one Art Figures. Back when I got the Art Figures I swapped the sculpt for one by Eleven, but it never seemed right - it was a bit pudgy and lacking in Tom Hardy likeness. As it was a neckless sculpt I swapped the Art body out.

This morning I decided to do some more mixing and matching, and return the Art Figures outfit to the Art Figures body.

Now I have one stock VTS (on the right); one VTS with the sunburnt, cropped hair Art sculpt, and the Art with a VTS sculpt and vest.

I only noticed afterwards that the pouch flaps popped up on both figures. However, in the film it looks like that flap was tucked behind the tin, or missing entirely:

With the two VTS one outfit was more weathered than the other from new.

I actually prefer Art's choice of going more suede than leather, because it sells the image of heavily worn leather, as on the prop costumes:

Overall the VTS looks quite clean, especially with the lighter pouches. I switched the darker Art vest back to the Art figure:

I have the 'suede' Art Figures Max that I never did fully put together, also the Furiosa with a body swap but, again, never fully finished because I was waiting for the Eleven head sculpt or some other to use which never came.

This Immortan Joe will motivate me to finish up my set at last... very excited.

I really hope Mel Max will get a villain to pair him with as well from Road Warrior.

:lol I'm not sure the Feral Kid won't look like a dirty Troll doll on the shelf... but he'd better come with the music box that makes him happy as well as the boomerang.

I like my villains so Max with Humungus and Wez would be the perfect shelf for me. 3 and done.

I watched Fury Road again today, looking at Max's outfit I don't think there was a single instance where it reflected light like the VTS figures. They're much more reminiscent of Mel's outfit, and really need complete dry brushing to make them matt.

Most of the time you couldn't even tell that Tom was wearing leather, and there was one scene where he's sitting in the artic cab where his jacket looks completely white from the dust.

I thought about putting Furiosa onto a bigger body, but it would've meant getting a bigger sculpt. In isolation she's a really good figure, albeit about 1/7 scale.

She'll probably look good with Immortan Joe, as she'll make him look like an imposing beast!

I'd imagine it's very likely.

Yeah, I like how they made Tom's outfit different from the Mel version. For me, Fury Road is a re-envisioning and not a direct sequel/prequel.

And yes, changing Furiosa's body requires a new head... you can use the original -- if you look at stills, Charlize is so tall that she actually has a pin head in real life :lol -- but its not ideal.

But it's highly possible that Furiosa will get the 3rd party treatment as well now.

I looked again about the question of reboot and sequel, to see if there was a definitive answer. It seems Miller went back and forth, hedging his bets.

To me as well, it's a new take on the same character. Mel and Tom are like two versions of Max as seen by different witnesses, and their stories are retold slightly differently.

I hope for a properly scaled Furiosa, so the VTS can be relegated to full time 'teen Furiosa'.

(I think this was VTS' source image!)

That's actually a perfect way to put it. It sounds like something Miller would say. Like Road Warrior is told by the Feral Kid, while Furiosa tells the tale of Tom's Max...

This will be my new thinking on it.

I find this way of thinking helps to rationalise inconsistencies. It works for something like Star Wars, where the EU was consigned to 'legends', yet there is so much of the EU that feels more correct than the later material. If something seems off, then it's either down to a faulty eye witness, or to somebody blatantly telling porky pies (e.g., the entire sequel trilogy!)

I'm still undecided on whether I want to pick this up to go with my other Fury Road figures. Obviously he was a very memorable and badass villain, but... he wasn't exactly the most visually appealing character ever. Lol. And I think I'd be more tempted by a Nux or one of the wives. Or even Rictus.

Right now I just have them alongside my Dredd figures since they both have a similar post-apocalyptic vibe going on (and are equally dusty and weathered up).

See the pics above. The body swap on Furiosa was not bad at all and the head looks fine in scale.

I personally think the VTS Max likeness is very much like Tom. it was the hair throwing it off as Tom’s hair in that film is all over the place…

It looks surprisingly good, since the original figure is so petite.

The VTS is the best overall.

When the Art came out I got two other sculpts: Eleven and Brother.

The Brother had freaky eyes and I only ever used it briefly under a helmet on a pilot figure.

I had the pudgy Eleven on the Art for a long time, but I struggled to see any Tom in it.

I see more Tom in Art's than all of them, including VTS, but the hair is so cropped and the paintwork so red and sunburnt.

Although it's a pointless thought at this point, but I'm still of the mind that Fury Road would have been so much better, had much more gravitas and meaning if Mel had returned. I'm still bummed about that recasting to be honest. I like Hardy as an actor, but he definitely felt a little miscast and that one piece that was out of place. Any who.

Well, Mel has certainly become more "Mad" as he's aged so he likely would have made a great old Max.

But could he have done all the stunt work that Hardy did? Maybe that was a concern.

I think it was "amped up" to reflect contemporary action tastes any way. I mean FR was around for years before cameras actually rolled. I'm sure it evolved over time when it came to the action sequences and the like. Who knows, its all "what ifs?" At this point. Like I said, pointless fan fiction.

Looking at the way Mel has aged though, he would have looked amazing returning to the wasteland. He's still got that spark.
