Which is more important for your 1/6 figures - detail or cost?

  • Toybiz got it right - $25 is the right price and their figures were fine.

  • $40 would be right for a hobbit, I don't need a lot of accessories or a ring.

  • I'm okay with $70 - seems like a good balance of price and detail.

I voted for pulling out all the stops. But I do think Sideshow is doing a fantastic job. If they wanted to up the accessories (the quality is fine) and maybe improve the ability for the ankles to articulate with the boots on...I would pay more for them.

I think the price point is fair where it is right now, and overall I am really happy with the quality of toys coming out. I would hate to see Sideshow drop any accessories and/or detail work for a lower price point. At $100 though, figures would move from being a treat to a luxury, and I would really have to cut back on the collecting. I like that I can get a relatively deep line with a lot of variety of figures, and the cost isn't so outrageous that I get priced out of collecting.

I voted for the $70 price point.

I feel that $70 is just about perfect considering how much stuff SS is giving you.

As far as I'm concerned, the figures are well worth the $70.

There's no way any figure without armor will go that high. I'd pay it for clone commanders, Vader, bounty hunters, but any more jedi, or OT heroes, or fellowship members and I think I'll have to start swimming. I won't be on it when it sinks.

I think it's the "fellowship members" that would keep this line afloat. Once we get the Fellowship, then the rest of the figures are gravy.

But to be honest, I still don't know why everyone assumes that an armored figure would cost significantly more than a figure with outfits made up of multiple layers of fabric and leather/pleather. The armor sections themselves would be made of molded plastic and not require more labor inducive stitching and different materials.

Taking this thought out of LOTR and into SW for a second and using a basic stormtrooper as an example, the entire figure would be dressed in molded plastic parts. I don't see any complicated manufacturing or labor intensive parts involved (compared to a Boromir or Aragorn, for example.) Plus many of those molds would be reused on the "clone"troopers, "sand"troopers, "biker"scout, the obvious "black"trooper exclusives, Obi-Wan in clonetrooper armor, etc.... ;)

Not if I have to start paying $100 for my Sideshow figures.

I could see armored characters in both SW and LOTR costing that much. The work that will have to go into them to get the right materials or the plastic 2 look right will push them that direction.

I expected the price to rise on account of R&D, but you (Fly&Flight) may be onto something with there being no tailoring involved. It could balance out.

I wasn't expecting it so much for regular troopers, but I'd be up for clone commanders at that price point. Atleast, I hope if we get commanders, they'll be worth $100. Those costumes are more complex, and they're all different.

The same goes for bounty hunters. Bossk in particular may need body parts sculpted just for him.

The other things to consider would be inflation, petroleum prices, and the dollar's exchange rate. But those rivers may not have to be crossed. Time will tell.

Right the level of difficulty per character will greatly determine the price as well.

Not to me. I don't collect the LotR line just to complete the fellowship. In fact that is completely unimportant to me. I want all the cool looking characters from LotR.

You can bet you head on it: by the time the armored characters are close, some SSC disciple will come up with a logically founded, über-intellectual... or imaginary explanation for the higher price! :D Wait and see!

Why is it those of you that don't agree with why we think the price is more on the hobbits or why its gone up must make snide remarks? I mean seriously. I've seen the terms SS Disciple, SS Sheeple, and another SS Follower name. You may not agree with what we're saying but I think when these get here folks will understand.

I just wish SS could give us the numbers because I think they would pretty much prove what we're saying.

The subject of armored 1/6 figures for the LOTR line has/was brought up at one of the ORC panels (in fact it may have been brought up at both past ORC's IIRC). The Sideshow folks on the panel basically said that more than likely armored LOTR figures would cost more ($100 or more since I remember they took a room poll to see how many people would pay that much or more to get such a figure...lots of folks raised their hands).
