whoa there is some serious debates over this teal vs olive. olive makes sense to me but a toned down teal would have been better to me. but whatever atleast we have an exclusive

:goodpost: I'm good no matter what. I love me some ninjas, and I'd even go as far to say that I'd get both.

~~Has anyone posted a pic of the Teal Ninja?? (save me from going through the entire thread and just give me the post number please)

I always assumed Storm Shadow's choice of white was symbolic. Also, I never thought he was the kind of ninja who required stealth to achieve his objective, and if he did, he'd make white work to his advantage.

The red ninjas came across as a kind of infantry, and their numbers would make the need for stealth irrelevant. The color has symbolism as well. But teal? That's just the 90's color scheme coming into play. Can't think of a reason.

That's some pretty selective rationalization you've got going on there. Copperhead wore teal, and he's pretty iconic, so it obviously isn't too far "out there" as far as Cobra color schemes go, even as early as 1984. As for the red ninjas being infantry, they weren't. Closer to ninja special forces maybe, but definitely not infantry. If any ninja gets that distinction you'd think it would be the ones that were originally Vipers in the first place.

I don't mind this figure but I don't love that SSC kept neither the classic silhouette nor color scheme for these guys. Since the vintage Ninja Viper was a SS repaint I think a tighter ninja mask would have been better than the headgear they're giving to the SDCC exclusive (unless, of course a second head is already included.)

They could have kept teal and just made it darker like the vintage filecard art.

That mask would have been cooler as well, IMO.

I think the point I made was pretty clear.

NONE OF THE SIDESHOW JOES EVER LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE THE RAH COUNTERPARTS.

So why expect Sideshow to colour a ninja in friggin' bright teal, when all along they've gone for more realistic and contemporary interpretation of GI Joe? This goes beyond colour.

And yes, to a certain extent you could make the point about Storm Shadow's white, the Red Ninja, etc - but in those cases the colours used were pretty important to the characters, whereas this, not so much. If these had been called "Teal Ninja Force Warriors" or something back in the day, maybe you'd have a point, but "Ninja Viper" is pretty generic and the fact that they are green is enough for me.

:lol:rotfl:lol:rotfl:lol Personally, I'm glad they went with a less "power ranger" color and applaud them for it. He'll look just as menacing as the other ninjas on the shelf without looking like a Sharks fan.

I'd have no problem with Sideshow doing a version faithful to the original, but I'd have even less interest in it that I do this one (which is growing on me, but not a must have like the red one was).

Yeah, it does seem that way, doesn't it?

I always thought Copperhead looked silly, but the fact that he piloted a water vehicle made sense.

But ok, I guess I can't blame it on the 90's.

I didn't mean Cobra infantry. More like Arashikage infantry, and when I say that, I just mean rank and file soldiers. I don't know if the term means something more specific than that.

Or, are you saying they were Arashikage special forces?

I still say they should have gone with teal. Like Khev said, it could have been a dark teal. I would have been in line with the blue of the Cobra Troopers. The OD I see more for Joe infantry.

I understand none of the Joes look the same as the RAH, but the colors have been faithful to the characters. With the exception of Fire Fly and Cherry Cobra Commander (the sniper was made up so it doesnt count). Its not an issue personally, but I see why some would complain.

I guess, but the way I see it, most anything past maybe '90 or so is fair game for colour change. Realism was the exception to the rule, rather than the other way around.

What would people say, if, for example, Sideshow made Sci-Fi? Would people really want bright neon green? Personally, I'd want that toned down severely - maybe not quite olive drab, but a lighter drab green, for sure.

Don't know if I agree here. It's all in his name, Sci-Fi. Plus, it's not like he's just a simple mail-away background army builder either. That'd be like changing the colors on Bazooka's jersey. :huh

This is such a great choice for a JOE SDCC Exclusive. :lecture Good on you, Sideshow. :rock

(Almost wipes away the stench of Cherry Cobra Commander).

I do agree with some of you that Sideshow can lighten up a little on this "real world" G.I. JOE stuff, though. That's almost as silly as thinking Batman could work and function in the real world.

I don't know, he's pretty bright...

Even if he was a bit more like the card art, it'd be an improvement. But I kind of doubt we'll see him, to be quite honest.

It is a great choice.

Depends on if you have a problem with the choice last year. :monkey3

They're keeping it pretty balanced which is fantastic.

I do. There was no JOE Exclusive last year at all. Poopy Commander was two years ago. ;) :pfft: :peace

Well, thats ok. Thats the great thing about Con items they are meant to be figures you can skip. Thats right two years ago. Hell, I can barely keep track of things anymore. :lol
