I wish a hammerhead, or really any classic alien, would have made an appearance in TFA. Chewie, along with cameos by Ackbar and Nein Nunb, are the only classic Star Wars aliens in the film.

Yeah that was one of the things that bummed me out regarding the aliens. 1. We didn't see a weequay, rodian, or any other familiar alien just in the background here or there to really feel like this was the same universe (would have been so easy to do at Maz's bar or maybe even in Jakku) and then 2. Many of the new creatures they did create, some of which looked stellar like those in the Vanity Fair photos, didn't make the final cut.

Being that it led from ROTJ, the movie felt very human-centric. A bit more than I expected. Maz didn't do much for me. The one standout creature for me was the scavenger who netted BB-8 and the awesome looking beast he was riding on--wish they'd done more with that scene.

Finally seeing the movie for a second time tomorrow. Can't wait.

That's the same issue it causes for me, in some way it keeps TFA from feeling like it's the same "world" as the OT. I'm all for new aliens and creatures, but just having one or two of the classic weirdos lurking around somewhere would have helped a lot.

The one thing I'll hold onto is that Empire had almost no creatures outside of the wampa, ugnaughts, and the tauntauns. So with that in mind it's still okay to give this flick a pass in that regard. It's just a tad strange because they clearly tried to add lots of creatures/aliens, but just felt like it came up a bit short in terms of making it work continuity-wise the way they did with the ships and OT actors, etc.

Haha, that's my main problem with it. It's very good for what it is, but why remake a film that is IN continuity with the story you're telling. Strange, but people don't seem to mind, and I'm positive Disney doesn't mind at this point $$.

An alien strongly resembling this guy sticks his head up from a Jakku dune as BB-8 is rolling past at night.

The PT had a lot of new and different species too. I guess in a galaxy that big, you're coming across new creatures all the time.

I did catch that guy in the desert, but it's only a resemblance or reference. And yes the prequels had a ton of new creatures and aliens, but many many OT aliens as well, and in that sense they felt like the same "world" as the OT.

So cool to think that hammerhead was made based on his tiny screen appearance, really shows the power of the Kenner line. Where were these two?

You might see these guys for a second, but I think many of the smaller scenes on Jakku were cut in editing. What's interesting is, in the Art of TFA, you can see the designs for guy in the back and the artist says he was told to make an equivalent of the Tusken Raiders.

I think Hammerhead's appeal is due to the power of the first film's utterly memorable designs, as well as the Kenner figures.

Yikes, that's interesting. Just got that book, which is beautiful, but only had a chance to flip through it, but it's one of my favorite Xmas gifts. Kinda like SW coming out right around Xmas now that I'm seeing all the immediate gift possibilities.

Fixed that part for you.:wink1: Remember this guy? Just grabbed whatever mask was laying around.

But honestly, seeing as how Ponda Baba is yet to be made it really does seem like Hammerhead, which is one of SS's finest, is a stroke of luck. Hope they get back to some of the cantina figures.

I do remember that guy, he freaked me out as a kid. Oddly enough, a number of the masks were literally "whatever was laying around" in the collection of FX master Rick Baker, like the infamous smiling devil mask. Of course, most were made new for the film. Ponda Baba is sorely missed in 1/6 as are many Cantina drunks. Personally I really want a Duros made.

They're fairly blink & miss, but there are actually Snivvians wandering the halls of Cloud City as Lando escorts the gang to their quarters.

Yep - HEM DAZON. :lecture

Yes, a quick glimpse or two of the ole' Hammerhead somewhere in TFA would've been most welcome...always loved that guy. Sideshow did him justice as a figure too....here he is making some shady deal with some smuggler guy....

I wish Sideshow would do some more SW alien figures....they always end up looking cool...

Yep, their alien figures are way better than their human figures. I'd love if they made more of the cantina characters and other random aliens. Ackbar would be great too.
