I looked into your seating problem and found this.

Apparenty, the design of the miniature speeders in the film didn't allow any room for the pilots to sit. If you look at the full size model taking off with Luke in it, you can see a Huge box for the cockpit.

I have been following your work for a while now and I just love it! I want to help out in any way.

Up until now I always thought that was to hide the forklift prongs. I never considered how small the legroom is for this design.

I think its a case of the usual thing where reality and the movie get twisted... Just like the Falcon cockpit I started... I was so gutted to find I would never be able to get Chewie is as he had no legroom... only to find behind the scenes pics with chewies feet sticking out the bottom of the cockpit like the Flintstones....

Ow well I am sure I will think of something and I can not thank you guys for the suggestions and help.

That drawing that you posted cadaver shows the set to be behind the centre window and on the models it shows the seat much further forward.

I really dont think there is a solid answer but all help is grrreeeaaattt!!!

So the snowspeeder is the Mini Cooper of the star wars universe?

Can you show us a top down picture so we can better understand the problem?

The Echo Base 'full size' Falcon had a cabin roughly 40% smaller than the one the actors sat in for the rest of the film. There's a shot of Chewie yelling at Han and if you freeze frame you'll see how ridiculously small that cabin is.

But I've again broke the first rule of Star Wars: We don't talk about spaceship scale in Star Wars.

Ah ha thats all makes sense now.

Well here are some shots of the issue... but fingers crossed by tomorrow it will be sorted!!!

That's workable imo. The seat floors will just have to be sacrificed which surely isn't a biggy as I think this will look best displayed with the pilots inside.

You can see how the leg room is none existant and I think I need to make the seats a lot less up right. The rear bulkhead needs to go really!!

:clap

Wow, this is really coming together! Can't wait to see how it turns out!

And the seats look fine, I don't think you'll be able to tell they're sitting on the floor. Great work!

Hi Mark-

I was going to write to tell you how I approached the situation when I made mine.... then remembered that I couldn't remember!

So... I popped off the lid to take a look-see...

Same as all of all of the rest of the folks are saying... low seat height, plus cutting a hole in the tub to let the feet stick out.

Hope this helps-
Dennis

Nice one Dennis, yeah I think you are right and it looks like your tub is deeper than mine. Well I guess its out with the chainsaw tomorrow for some delicate reworking :)

I think you're in good shape. This is much better than I expected from your description.

There's less leg room compared to the Kenner toy, but on yours luke can reach his instruments. On the kenner toy he would need to lean forward like he's doing toe touches.

You could shave a bit off the thickness where the seat backs meet, but this is good.

As The Dude says you can't tell they're on the floor. The Dude abides...

MARK! May I offer my 3 cents?

I think you can save everything by cutting a little area at the bottom of Dack's foot area, which I have illustrated here:

S%20Speeder.jpg

Then Dack has some leg room, and you can either move the seats back, giving Luke some room, or thin the head rests, also giving Luke room at the front. What do you think? The hole created in Dack's foot area is still covered by the Speeder's back end.

Does my rambling help? :cuckoo:

BTW, looking GREAT! :D

EDIT: Yeah, didn't see the above post by dls712, but yeah, like THAT! :D

Well I have most of the bits cut for the shell of yours... :) I just need to iron out any more issues with setting first mate :)

Mark as always buddy sensational work and just out of curiosity are you gou to have the speeders mounted like the falcon cockpit/x-wing or just on the deck with landing skids.

Ron

They dont seem to have skids, we think they hover like landspeeders. So it will eventually just have a stand. What I would like to is have it on a swivel like the speederbikes, so it could be put at an angle.

I'll second that one. When Luke and Dack's speeder lifts there are no visible doors for gear. Like a landspeeder they would seem to hover even when 'off'
