Does anyone think the color could be a little darker, though? This is an older figure, and not without issues, but the color of the leather is a closer match to the photo. If it wasn't for the huge zipper I'd be tempted to use this one on the Sideshow Indy... if it fit properly.

I agree about the colour. It doesn't really matter whether it is darker or not in the film - as opposed to that one photo - the figure's jacket should be darker. It will look better.

I use to have that figure. I loved it!! I just hope that the SS figure will look as good if not better.

I personally am expecting it to look better. Toys McCoy is a great and classic figure, but if Sideshow can't top a figure that is nearly 10 years old I will be on cranky collector :lol

If Indy looks as good (or as close as usual) as their proto we should all be pretty happy collectors :rock

Look, I respect what Toys McCoy did for Indy but let's face it, it's very...I don't know, dollish? I know that seems kind of hypocritical but yeah SSC and HT are more miniature replicas of the characters.

Except for the zipper, the jacket is nicer.

I still love this version of Indy and will be keeping him no matter what. A newer, better Indy won't change that, or the dated quality of the figure itself.

Like galactiboy said, it's nearly 10 years old and suffers from the clunky GI Joe body and the "toyish" look that was fairly standard at the time. (Remember the Star Wars 12" stuff by Hasbro around the same time?) This Indy's a classic and will always remain one, but I also expect the Sideshow Indy to be superior all around. (Well... except for the jacket... maybe).

I completely agree, and yet back then that's pretty much what everyone was making when their Indy came out. Look how far Dragon's military figures have come since the first few years of their production. In all fairness, Hot Toys stuff back then would be considered crap by today's standards. I still have some of their early products, and they ain't pretty! Now they're practically state of the art! (Btw, I only posted the pics to show the jacket color, not to compare the figure with anything being made now).

Things have changed a lot and I think we can be thankful for companies like Toys McCoy who attempted to push the envelope in an attempt to make better products for collectors. :D

I would even argue that the McCoy was overall less dollish when it came out compared to other figures. I remember the first time I saw it being completely blown away by how nice it looked... but at the time I also thought the RAH Predator and Alien figures were the shiznit :lol Man, how the hobby and product has evolved :google

I own the Relic Hunter figure, from pictures, the clothing and accessories seem very similar to the Toys McCoy Indiana Jones figure. Does anyone have both? Can you tell me if they are the same?

I've only seen the Relic Hunter but I'd have to say they are not the same. I could have got one but wasn't as impressed with it. Others may disagree, but from what I saw, the Toys McCoy Indy is/was a much nicer product. All of the accessories and clothing was extremely well done (real leather jacket, bullwhip, gun belt and holster, metal pistol, etc.) and even hold up by today's standards. The head sculpt was by Hayao Hama of Billiken model kit fame and is still one of the best mass-produced portraits of Indy ever made for an action figure, imho. Even the packaging is a collectible.

The only real drawback is the body... it sucks bad compared to what's available now. This is one area where the SSC Indy will be far superior... no comparison, really.

I own the Relic Hunter figure. The body and headsculpt are not that great (a barely passable likeness of Ford...or maybe his stunt double). The hat is an atrocity! I think the old Kenner hat looked better. Everything else is pretty darned nice though. The jacket is a little bulky and has the same huge zipper as the McCoy, but is well made just the same...lined with working pockets. Leather belt, holster, whip. Metal pistol with opening chamber, metal TOD sword (that is beautiful, you can see it in a couple of my pics in the Medi thread). Leather boots with real laces, socks, and a really nice bag as well. I put all the gear on a Dragon body and used the old Indy Hero Head to make my custom.

Dated or not, that Toys McCoy figure is still really eyecatching on a shelf with other action figures. It holds up really well. I will never sell mine.

So with only a couple more announcements (that we don't know about) it's looking likely that there won't be a new INDY announcement during Spookfest afterall.

:banghead:

Or ever.

Didn't Arnie Kim do an Indy sculpt some time back? How about we all write to enterbay and ask for an Enterbay Indiana Jones?
