I'm depressed.

For years we have (or at least I have) been living in Alien and Predator heaven. Ever since McFarlane announced their Movie Maniacs 5 Boxed Set -Alien & Predator, a new era was ushered in: the era of the articulated, highly detailed alien and predator figures. A few months later Aoshima unveiled theirs and soon after we were being hit by statues, busts and other memorabilia and collector's items from all kinds of different sources: Palisades, Marmit, Sideshow all contributed and we even saw a resurgence of the old Tsukuda figures.
Finally Hot Toys stepped into the game and made every fanboy's dream come true with the first figures from AvP and the Colonial Marines from Aliens.

In these fantastic couple of years Hot Toys has released more and better figures than we ever had the right to dream of. And NECA has also jumped into the game to fill the void left by McFarlane, delivering stunningly beautiful and accurate figures from our favorite monsters. Even Medicom revisited Alien to give ultimate man-in-a-suit figure.

Now, on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the movie that started it all, we await the release of the Hot Toys Predator, Dutch and Billy, and the unveiling of their Giger Alien.

Does that mark the end of an era?

It is hard to imagine Hot Toys making more aliens or predators, after all, they have released most, if not all of the creatures. And it's hard to imagine either line being able to survive on the strength of the human characters alone. The only creature left to do is the queen, but Hot Toys have been reluctant to confirm that, even hinting that they would look at other scales.

NECA has not made any public announcements, but we know Kyle "Tankman" would love to make more figures from both franchises, so that's up in the air. Unfortunately, they seem to have no plans whatsoever to release their figures in 1/6 scale.

Medicom is pretty inscrutable as to their intentions, but there's nothing that might lead us to believe they would make more figures.

Palisades is no more.

Sideshow have released busts and dioramas of all the main creatures.

Finally, Revoltech announced an alien figure last year, to be released in 09 but we have had no news since then. Also, it's anyone's guess whether this would be a one-off or part of a series.

So is that it?
Is this year to mark the end of the Alien and Predator figures? Just how long will we have to wait until another company (or the same ones) revisits these franchises?

I'm depressed. :(

Products will die down a bit and manufacterers will start producing again once demand has built back up. I dont think HT have anywhere to go after the Predator human figs are done and I doubt we'll see re-releases anytime soon.

I'd love a bunch more humans from both franchises. The Hot toys Alien and Predator lines would be far from dead if they could go on my tastes alone. Trouble is I can't see them putting out say Danny Glover from Predator 2 now, so long after they put out the Predator itself. Likewise I can't see the Alien Queen happening now after such a long time since that film was last visited.

Me thinks that there may be another Predator or AVP film in the works, so maybe that will eventually spawn another spike in general interest...

But they only just put the Lost pred out?

Anyway even though the P2 was so long ago I really don't think that would deter people who already have the P2 pred from getting Harrigan. I'm not sure what difference the big time gap makes as long as people already have the other figs? There are people still who desperatly want a Hicks and are paying ^^^^loads for him.

I for one am really hoping for a Harrigan fig fully kitted-up in combat gear and felt pretty pissed off with HT for making instead yet another pred (Lost - who was on-screen for only 1 min) before any humans at all from the movie. And then they went and made Machiko from the comics?! It would be nice to have my P2 and P2 Elder poseing with a human who was in the film.

I hear you abake, but as we've had Machiko perhaps we'll get some more EU figures, I'd certainly go for Broken Tusk.
And if there's enough demand, and people keep up the pressure (I mean, look at the POTA line) then I'm sure ways will be found to give us more 'Predator' goodness. I'd love a 2 in 1 Peter Hall tribute figure, wouldn't a lot of us?

Hmm. I kind of thinking of the Hasbro mentality where a 'core' character or 2 has to be the anchor of a 'wave' with 2 or 3 lesser characters but that may not apply to 1/6th figures at all. So I had in mind a system whereby in order to sell a human character (who isn't dressed in a cool soldier outfit) it would have to be released alongside the title character - predator or alien. But this could be completely the wrong mindset - indeed I hope it is because I would buy a Mike Harrigan 1/6th from Hot toys in a heartbeat regardless of how much time has passed since the predator came out.

Harrigan seems an obvious choice, its a shame he doesn't appear to be in consideration - he'd be a distinctive looking figure being black and with that yellow shirt - plus he could come with an array of different guns to sweeten the deal. And theres battle-damaged variant potential.

So is that it?

NEVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

theres loads of options hot toys can choose from; comic books, re-releases, BD versions- theres money to be made. id also like to see neca making dog and resurrection aliens and hopefully marines :banana. and hopefully more cool dios from sideshow.

it is just the beginning :devil:devil:devil the fans want it, it must be done

In addition to basic clothes he'd come with at least:

Body-armour vest,
M4/grenade-launcher,
Shotgun,
Desert Eagle with scope,
Shoulder-holster
Bloody cutting disc.
Danny-boy's necklace.

I hope not. I still think this is a popular line. And HT will hopefully surprise us from time to time... Just think we haven't seen Resurrection Aliens/Hybrid yet? And for the human characters I wouldn't mind either. We should be fortunate that HT does have a license for Alien series...:D

That would be one cool figure. I'm amazed it hasn't been done. Hope Danny glover isn't overly protective of his likeness should Hot toys decide to do it. Please please please.

Edit - wonder would it require a new body type?

The end?

With DarkHorse revitalizing the Alien, AVP, and Predator comics this year, Sideshow saying they are FAR from finished with the licenses, and more and more new companies putting there own spin on things, it's FAR from the end.

In fact, I think right now is the perfect time to be a fan of Alien and Predator - especially if you're a collector. Hot Toys might be near the end of their run with these creatures, but that hardly marks the end of anything... especially if people were to get into kit collecting.

And I'd like to add, Sideshow have only done dios of two Predators, we've still got four more at the very least that they can do.

In my mind, with all of the success the merchandise has had, with DarkHorse giving it a go and releasing new novels that were successful (and now they have faith to make new comics), this year almost seems like a rebirth to me. Hell, with any luck at all, if everything goes well... maybe we could finally get a Predator 3???

I can dream right?

Dead!? have you seen all the preds in avp that were standin outside the ship! :lol
and the lost preds(the rest)
by the way wasn't there two huge avp posters at SDCC?
i thought i saw them and it looked like a new bio on the pred, am i wrong?

I think it was for Dark Horse's re-launch of the AvP comics
AVP1.jpg

All it would take is for FOX to revisit the AVP/ ALIEN / Predator franchise, and everything would pick back up.

Can you imagine that? A really GOOD (and I mean GOOD) AVP movie? :monkey5

Also, I think it's up to us collectors to keep manufacturers interested.
If they see us making customs/ dioramas/ and even vehicles that has to do with any of the above, I'm sure they'll keep making collectibles.

I'm not worried, because there is money to be made. As long as the $ is still there, more will come.

nope.
same reason i can't imagine Britney Spears making a really GOOD (and I mean GOOD) album.
the entire premise of AVP is crap to begin with. film crossovers are fundamentally doomed to suck.
AVP belongs in comic books and video games. period.

didnt you get her really good one she just released, it was awsome!
it was the two disc special edition with newly developed blank discs

I'm glad you guys are more optimistic, but I seriously don't see much more stuff coming. The Lost Preds were all basically mixed into one, and there simply are no more aliens, unless we go down the (shudder) boar- and gorilla-alien route.
And more movies?
I actually would rather not have them make any more movies. P3 could be interesting, but no more AvP please...

If HT does their "artistic" thing with Giger's Alien and NECA does not release theirs in 1/6 scale, there is always the hope that someone else might have a go at it, but it's a very long shot.

It could be interesting to see figures based on artists' interpretations of the aliens and preds, but that's also a long shot.
