No Hateful 8 for best Screenplay?
I think that's a first for Tarantino.
EDIT: I guess not. I see he only received Screenplay nominations for Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds, and Dgango Unchained.

There are people and websites complaining about the lack of diversity...because there are no people of color nominated
I want to say something but I better not.
Universal had a historic year in the global box office, yet combined with Focus Features they only have 4 nominations in total I mean, that in itself should be enough to temper whatever expectations people have about their favorite blockbuster getting an Oscar nomination. There are exceptions like Avatar, LOTR, and American Sniper, but those are far and few. I think the key difference between Avatar getting a nod and TFA's failed bid is pretty clear - James Cameron.
What's weird is Ridley Scott getting a GG for directing but not even a Oscar nomination for Directing
Will it take a bear for Leo to finally get an Oscar
Can't say I'm surprised by the nominations. The best actor and actress categories are filled with critical darlings from the year, pretty much everyone nominated was said to be the reason that film was watchable despite the film itself not being great, such as Jennifer Lawrence and Eddie Redmaine. I'm not surprised by Ruffalos nomination as he was the best thing in spotlight that wasn't the script. Rachel Mcadams surprises me as I thought she was ok, I think she was just lucky to be in one of the best films of the year.
I can't speak for beast of no nation as I haven't seen it but it seems like the Academy voters have a biased against Netflix right now, despite the incredible talent in front and behind the camera. I'm actually surprised Star Wars didn't get a Best Picture nom, I was really expecting that.
