Best film
The Revenant

Best Actor
Michael Fassbender

Best Supporting Actor
Tom Hardy

Best Actress
Brie Larson (I'm sick to death of Jennifer Lawrence)

Best Supporting Actress
Alicia Vikander

Best Score
Daniel Pemberton

Best Original Screenplay
Alex Garland (Ex Machina deserves any and all recognition and applause it gets), I would have loved a nomination for Oscar Isaac too though

I'm also really surprised at no nomination for Jeff Daniels for Steve Jobs. He was amazing in that.

I forgot that Alejandro González Iñárritu just won Best Director for Birdman last year. For that reason alone I could see them going with Miller.

Universal had a historic year in the global box office, yet combined with Focus Features they only have 4 nominations in total :lol I mean, that in itself should be enough to temper whatever expectations people have about their favorite blockbuster getting an Oscar nomination. There are exceptions like Avatar, LOTR, and American Sniper, but those are far and few. I think the key difference between Avatar getting a nod and TFA's failed bid is pretty clear - James Cameron.

Out of all the movies listed, I have only seen Star Wars, Mad Max, Inside Out and Ex Machina, so until I see more I guess I can't really speak intelligently about who should win.

New baby = no free time for movies.

The Revenant to sweep the board.

:lol

This has got to be one of those years were you think they really didn't have that much best picture material to choose from :slap

I mean Mad Max for best picture :cuckoo:

What's weird is Ridley Scott getting a GG for directing but not even a Oscar nomination for Directing :thud:

LOTR isn't an exception. It wasn't until the third movie when it even got nominated.

Well, the Hollywood Foreign Press votes for that. They're about 70 people who live in LA and the studios buy them dinners and give them all kinds of free stuff in order to buy some votes. That's how the GG work. However, the Oscars are voted by over 6,000 members from all areas of the entertainment industry.

Can't say I'm surprised by the nominations. The best actor and actress categories are filled with critical darlings from the year, pretty much everyone nominated was said to be the reason that film was watchable despite the film itself not being great, such as Jennifer Lawrence and Eddie Redmaine. I'm not surprised by Ruffalos nomination as he was the best thing in spotlight that wasn't the script. Rachel Mcadams surprises me as I thought she was ok, I think she was just lucky to be in one of the best films of the year.

I can't speak for beast of no nation as I haven't seen it but it seems like the Academy voters have a biased against Netflix right now, despite the incredible talent in front and behind the camera. I'm actually surprised Star Wars didn't get a Best Picture nom, I was really expecting that.

You should definitely check it out, for me it should be nominated in almost every category.

There are people and websites complaining about the lack of diversity...because there are no people of color nominated :slap

I don't care about the whole diversity issue, but I definitely think Abraham Atta and Idris Elba were snubbed this year. The whole movie was snubbed actually :lol
