This episide was cool because he had TONS of old toys i used to own...and i also appreciated it because it showed a DIE HARD that didn't mess around when it came to valuing and selling his prized collectibles.

Wow what an awesome collection and wtf? i'll give you $5k yeah as if. :lol

Do you realize how long it would take him to sell those at a pawn shop... It could take years. Why in the hell would he tie up $20,000 for that long?

Yeah i do realize how long it would take but his first offer at $5k was taking the piss a little don't you think?

Thanks for posting the link! I meant to watch that episode, but missed it. This way I just got to see the part I wanted :duff

Not really, you're usually lucky to get 35% of an items value either selling it to a dealer, a lot less at a pawn shop. If the estimate of 15K-20K was accurate 5K is about right, and I'd say 10K is probably too high.

The owner just needs to bite the bullet and piece it out on eBay. Its a lot of pieces, but if he took the time to create a good template he could sell the items quickly and make a lot more money.

What I don't get is why have a collection like that just sitting on the floor? Get some shelves, do it up right!

Ok fair enough i stand corrected, no big deal. :dunno :lol

Oh and thanks for posting the vid it was great to see such and awesome collection. :rock

Wow, that's a wicked collection. I think if he sells the toys individually he should be able to get close to his asking price.

OT: A friend of mine was in Vegas and decided it would be a kick to stop by their shop. Well needless to say he wasn't able to get inside. He said there is a line that runs, at least, a couple of blocks with folks wanting them to see their stuff with the hopes of being on TV.

Yeah I saw that episode. His collection is impressive and I am glad he didnt sell it. Ricky and that pawn shop like to rip people off. The guy should just sell his collection piece by piece. That way he will have money coming in continuously.

But that's the nature of a pawn shop. They buy things as far below value as they can, hoping to sell it for a profit, though there is no guarantee that they will be able to sell an item at all. If the sellers wanted to get actual value for their stuff, then they should go to eBay or open their own store.

The only reason to sell to a pawn shop in a world of eBay, IMO, is if you want them to hold it as collateral for a loan, if you are in a real rush to get money, if you don't want to hassle with selling something yourself, or. . .if you are selling stolen merchandise I guess. You don't go there to maximize profit.

I know that. :slap I just dont like his tactics sometimes. Sometimes he says one price and when he shakes hands, he changes it.

It always funny to see the “it’s old so it has to be worth a lot” people come in and then act like Rick killed their puppy when he tells then its not even worth ¼ of what they want for it. Or the “you can get x amount for this easy” when they ask for a high price. Like the guy who brought in a Miami Heat NBA Champs ring (not a player ring) and was offered $8000 and the guy swore up and down that Rick could get $20,000 for it easy. The guy didn’t take the offer but came back later and took it still swearing it would sell for $20,000. But the best is when one of the experts come in and say your item would be valued at $5000 to $7000 and when they ask what the guy wants for it they always say $5000. Do people have any idea what a Pawn Shop even is?

I dont know what those people issue is. lol Maybe they go by what the expert says because thats what they would like to get. But they should know they arent going to get that price at a pawn shop. Its usually 50% or lower of the bottom price. Sometimes they go a bit higher because they know its an easy turnaround. If you want 100% of what you want, just ask Chum. :slap :lol

well in this day and age of the internet, I agree that the only reason to sell to a pawn shop is like if you need an emergency surgery or are about to escape the country. any one with a little bit of patience can make much more using ebay.

That is the thing that I boggles my mind about this show, is when you see someone with a single valuable item yet they are willing to sell it for so little.

I guess they could intend to return and purchase it back, but seems most people don't come back to claim their items.
