Over at NBC there is a 7 minute HD clip from Spiderman 3.

Let me start by saying that I'm a huge CGI, special effects freak. I love big summer movies and I'm not a very critical person when it comes to judging films of this nature.

With that being said...I just got finished watching that 7 minute video and I hope the effects were not finished. I thought the way the action sequences were put together was cool but the effects IMHO were not very good. I mean with movies like 300 & Transformers, from footage we've seen, the effects were so much better. The scene with Harry looked right out of a straight to video movie.

The parts I did like were at the end with the huge Sandman and quick glimpse of Venom.

What scares me is the potential of Sam Raimi directing The Hobbit. If the effects are finished from what's on that preview god help us!!!

It won't let me watch the clip for some reason. I did catch the clip during Heroes though and thought it looked pretty good.

The clip takes about 20 minutes to download. The clip during Heroes was only about 20 seconds and didn't show the clip I described above. I think once you see the clip I'm speaking about you may agree.

Wow the action sequence was great but the effects looked unfinished. I kind of liked it though, it seemed to have an illustrated quality to it in parts. I love the epic scale of the fight. It's just how I always imagined them to be from the comics. As lame as that design for Harry OSbornes is, he worked well on screen.

Well Harry Goblin wasn't as bad as I feared. But Toby still doesn't seem Peter Parkerish to me.

Sandman looks like he'll be incredible and i want one of those gliders!!!

It looked pretty damned good to me.

Harry did look better than I expected, but I'm still not digging the fancy snowboard.

Venom looked in even better in the quick shot we got of him.(i'm glad they're savin him for the movie and not ruining it in the trailers). but you can tell he looks slick.

Downloading now...I love this download manager, I can get it to leech off of some sites and it gives me 30 different connections to the file which accelerates it a hole bunch, actual download speed last I checked was 300kb/s:D And it can get better when the campus network isn't being hammered like it is now.

I have a feeling that Venom is going to be in the movie for about 45 seconds at the climax. Maybe they are keeping him in the background of the trailers so that people don't get too excited and then feel let down when he ends up with very little screen time.

No raimi doesn't like to give things away, venom fights in the movie and i'm sure it's more the 45 sec.

Oh, it would be a huge letdown if he didn't fight Spider-Man in the climax. I totally expect that! I just mean that some people might be expecting Venom to be heavily featured as the villain throughout the movie.

I expect that Peter will be struggling with the symbiote suit for most of the story, and then when he finally rids himself of it, it will go to Eddie and Venom will finally show up, but not until the end. Have you seen much Sandman merchandise? Everything I'm seeing from Sideshow, etc. is all about Spidey and Venom (busts, VCDs, RAHs, statues) and I just think that his screen time won't live up to some expectations. I was being sarcastic about the 45 seconds, but I seriously expect to see two hours without Venom and maybe 5-10 minutes with.

I would say that with all of the mystery they've had with Venom trying to keep him a kind of secret that he should have a good role in the movie.

That 7 minutes was really good, but the effects as has been said aren't that great. Seriously, the matching with the live action stuff isn't good at all, the 3D stuff isn't color matched correctly, and you can clearly tell when stuff is CG. At this late date I can't think that there will be much improvement on that though. But it does seem like there will be some very good story besides the action.

I think it's funny that the merchandising heavily favors Venom while the trailers feature Sandman.

I guess your expectations will depend upon whether you are into trailers or collectibles!

I thought that everyone new that. Sure, Eddie Brock will be in the film but the third film's villain is Flint Marko/The Sandman.
