Re: 8BC CUSTOM WERKS BASH THREAD: ZOMBIES•ZOMBIES•ZOMBIES & a little military

PMC SERIES: Lionheart (cœur du lion): ex-commando de montfort by 8-bit commando, on Flickr

i added some very subtle hues under the eyes and around cheeks with pastels - very sparse as the head sculpt was already affected with 'dirt'. after dull-coating, i added multiple coats of gloss to the eyes and lip crack (just enough to contrast with the dry pastel). i then added environmental affect (pastel sand) and lightly sprayed downwards to avoid the eyes and mouth crack. as previously posted, i also added the weeping band-aid from a shaving accident on the other cheek.

Nice weathering and great touch on that band aid!

i was lucky enough to score 8 SIDESHOW 'THE DEAD" figs for less than $40 each. i missed the fedex man twice but caught him today. the butcher immediately caught my eye because of his heft and his fully sculpted forearms/hands. i finished the face, eyes and painted portion of the hair. i am now going to add some real fake hair to augment what it sculpted. this way i can backlight the figure and the little hairs will really make the figure 'come alive' har-har-har.

i placed him under the "epic" JOY + PAIN moniker because he is going to be part of the zombie extras. i plan on repainting and integrating all the SS zombies i scored.

Wow, amazing score indeed! Can't wait to see what comes next. I only picked up the Mall Santa a few months back, and I love that sculpt! So many things on my bench now, but seeing your work makes me want to move my Zombs to the head of list. Your Butcher is looking fantastic! Real hair on these really do make them come alive. :wink1:

Is it cool to ask how you add the hair? I'd love to know.

I use matte medium mixed with white glue then apply acrylic/matte medium washes to color and harmonize the look. I'll them spray dullcote and reapply wet effects as necessary. For dry hair, I use mohair and be careful to only apply the medium/white glue to the scalp areas. try to add a bit more than you need with mohair as the brushing and styling process removes strands. Cut end result to taste. Hope this helps.dust with pastels to tint lighter hair. Spray with dullcote.

Cool thanks. Will try this myself.

cool man.

i think, the wet (slimy) look hair really helps set the bar for the wet apps, thus making the dry apps seem even dry. that's the thinking at least. god knows how every horror monster i ever grew up with seemed to be 'slicked up' irregardless of context. i can dig it.

the priest was cool because he had the dry hair but the wet, nasty gaping head wound to set the wet apps bar.
