This nasty wound is on the face of one of our horses. It apears that she raised her head up too quickly next to a branch or possibly a nail in the barn and caught her hide right behind the eye and tore it.:monkey2 The vet is on the way. The horse doesn't appear to even be bothered by it.

Ironicly I noticed it shortly after getting back from taking Dad to the surgery center to get the surrounding area of his eyes operated on. Wierd.

Pretty gross huh?

Poor thing. :monkey2 I hate seeing animals injured or in pain, they can't tell you what's wrong with them. I hope she gets patched up quickly.

Oh wow....poor horse. I hope she's patched up quick and heals well. Keep us posted.

Luckily it looks like it was just the skin that was torn...it doesn't look like a deep cut into the muscle. It's still pretty nasty looking. I hope it's okay.

I love animals and hate seeing them hurt or in distress. Please keep us up to date. I hope everything turns out ok.

Yeah, it was VERY fortunate it missed her eye and it is just the skin that got torn. Like I said, she doesn't appear to be in any pain. Her mood hasn't changed at all and she still rests her head on my shoulder like normal when I go out there and pet on her. The vet is still suppose to come tonight(I hope) so all should be well.

Hope everything ends up ok, that wound looks pretty nasty... even for just being the skin. Horse hide is pretty tough, so she must have hit whatever she hit pretty hard. Thank God it didn't hit her eye.

Well the vet just got thru stitching her up. She gave her a mild sedative and my wife put a rope around her upper lip called a twitch that causes endorphins to be released and she hardly moved during the whole thing. Now as long as she doesn't swell and pop the stitches she'll be just fine.

Great news!!! :rock What's her name, by the way?

That is one nasty wound, godd thing it didnt catch the eye first whuteva it was... Great news that she's all patched up and will be fine. Can't stand seeing animals in pain or with wounds on them:monkey2 but i still watch all those animal cops or FBI or something like that on animal planet:D

One of my father in law's horses had similar injury and recovered just fine, and I hope things go as smoothly for you.

Man I miss my horse.
