I've been reading papers on the idea that there are human remains on the Titanic Wreck site, pairs of shoes or pairs of shoes with coats. Some that have been down there say they've never seen remains, others say deep in the ship there could be, and others say that there were bodies where these clothes were, and in the mud there may be remains.

My thoughts on this are this, when someone drowns they sink, it's decomposition that causes gases to form and make a body float to the top. Down that deep the water is so cold that maybe decomposition didn't happen, or even if it did under that much pressure gases would be so compressed that it wouldn’t be enough to float a body. After time microorganisms and the scavengers of that depth would eventually eat or dissolve a body, and under the mud there could still be bones.

Does anyone else have any views?

Sharks? Not at that depth.

When Bob Ballard first released this picture he made sure to crop the other shoe out so that it just looked like clothing litter.

If you look at it closely and if we had the full photo (That I bet shows the other right shoe laying on its left side) it looks like someone was resting on their left side, right leg crossed over their left, wearing a long coat, with pants, and that even after their body dissolved away it left their clothes exactly like they were when they were on their body. In the leather shoes (since microorganisms don’t like the chemicals that are in the leather) there could be bones, or even under the mud there could be where a person wore their watch or rings.

Considering the trouble that it causes deep sea salvage and exploration teams when ever human remains are found at wreck sites, I get the feeling Ballard wanted to cover up the fact; as well as Cameron that there are remains down there.

That particular shark by the way is a fish eater, not a man eater. Its picture is often used just because of the way it looks, but its teeth are made for fish. It looks like a Sand Tiger Shark, which also uses a air bladder rather that a bladder with oil to keep from sinking to the bottom, if would be crushed at those depths.

He's right. Depth of Titanic is 12,415 feet exactly.

Closest Shark to a deep sea depth is a Goblin and it doesn't get that deep.

Now... microorganisms is a plus for those who mentioned. Now besides sharks there are many sea creatures that could in fact eat humans. Many we may never know exist since USA thinks Space is more important than the Sea.

I agree, most everyone that's going down there are only treasure hunters and that's wrong. On the other hand there are some other wrecks where human remains have been found, but those sites are being destroyed by fishing boats dragging giant nets across the bottom and if (since some of these sites are in open water) no nation can official protect the site, I think some recovery should be carried out.

There was a Discovery Special yesterday night that examined one situation in which this was happening to an old British War ship (wooden) that went down in the English Channel during a storm. Over one Thousand men went down with it with zero survivors. One human skull was uncovered when the wreck was first discovered and a year or so later when the wreck was examined for damage (which it had been continued, as well as theft from the site of one of the Bronze cannons) another human skull was found.

I remember reading somewhere that they think some remains ended up as far away as the Philippines.

If you want to see creepy stuff, google all the folks that freeze to death on Mt. Everest, be warned ---graphic stuff!!

the "Rainbow Valley" as they call it, for the colors of their jackets and gear.

I didn't think it was so creepy but more sad, really sad more than anything.

after the bloated fartbag/floaties phase. they eventually sink back down once all that gas gets out.

with that incident i dont think those bodies could float back up if they ended up way down there to begin with. decomposition still occurs but on a variable rate.

I read bodies flooded for hundreds of miles; also some of the life jackets worked loose and the bodies just slipped out and sank. That's the reason why month’s later empty jackets were found flooding tied.

I say leave them be.

What if they don't want to be left alone? What if there are vengeful ghosts that want to be brought up to the surface to enact their revenge? I say we nuke the site from space and gather the remains of everything once the radiation has cleared.

I thought they did make it to N.Y. after a long time... :dunno

What movie is this from?

The White Star line would be the ones they would be after and that would be the descendents of J. Bruce Ismay. After making the Captain (who also died) increase speed even though they had Iceberg warnings, he wanted to make a big show by arriving early. He crawled on a life boat and saved his own *** while women and children drowned. Back in those days an act of pure cowardice.
