The prototype is not even complete yet . They said December will be the reveal . I think I read it on 1/6 warriors.

I thought folks were talking about seeing it at the con already. Any word on character line-up? I would imagine since they are promoting both movies, the line won't simply be limited to Leonidas. Even if it's just one more character from "300", Xerxes would be preferred but even an Immortal would be okay. And at least Artemisia and Themistocles from "Rise". Everyone else was pretty forgettable anyway.

I'm definitely looking forward to this, I was very disappointed to miss out on the HT one and for moral reasons would not pay the Ebay prices.

Know exactly what you mean about the moral reasons and especially if HT release a 2.0 then the price of the first one drops like a brick. The problem situation ACI is facing is that there version has to be near perfect because not only are they competing against a previous near flawless figure from HT, they are also competing against the HT Brand name. People love label brands, its a fact. So how would they distinguish this version from the HT version. Cant do it on headsculpt alone, something about the new figure really needs to be very special, will it be body or accessories? I guess a lot of people will buy this figure because firstly its not bootleg and secondly its available at a decent price. But if its not as good as the HT version then that thought will always be at the back of the collectors mind.

If they have to stand right on the same pedestal as ht / They have to simply "exceed ht quality" from a body stand point (a jointed body with shoulder or elbow joint just won't cut it - if they do even a single joint on elbow or shoulder or miss the veins and wound mark effect that ht had / this will be a toy vs ht Leo a collectors pride ) , they also better or at least equal the sculpt if possible and totally wow On accessories - that's the only way they will beat ht! Ht Leo is a huge huge benchmark! That rubber body was flawless and has stood the test of time! Weathering on the cape! The arrows on the shield! Two sculpts! It was just stunning!

Aci has to step up and show "there is someone that can beat ht" and I am rooting for aci! But cutting corners won't win them any goodwill!

This is true, but ACI has really built a name for themselves and could distinguish this figure from HT easily in headsculpt and detail. The loin clotch and straps to the cape that HT made of soft plastic could be done in leather, the sword diecast and the helmet in diecast. While this would cause the overall price to rasie even at $250 or $300 would be better than what we'd see on ebay especially for the upgrades mentioned.

:goodpost:
I hope ACI is reading this. Add all of this with a good rubber muscle body and you have a HT killer.

Hot Toys vs Star Ace vs ACI

Comparisons & potential mixing & matching of parts (if one doesn't stand completely superior) might be fun .....

So Star Ace had a Leonidas at NYCC but no photos allowed. Afraid of ACI perhaps... Maybe ACI is dragging their feet on releasing some sort of proto because they want to see what Star Ace does first. Like a game of chess?
Guess the first one that releases proto photos probably has the most confidence in their product.

Some of those parts are probably too delicate for real leather.

So there are two Leonidas figs on the way... How does two companies have the license for a 1/6 figure at the same time?

The rights holder can do pretty much as they wish.

I'm aware one of the companies makes Harry Potter figs and the other does LOTR, but beyond that I'm not familiar with them. I'll get whichever Leonidas looks best.

It's just a non-exclusive license. A license allows you to produce the item. An exclusive license allows you to produce it, and contractually prevents the company from selling competing licenses. Exclusive licenses cost a lot more.
