I know what you mean, even though Clooney has been nominated 8 times (4 actor, 2 writing, 1 director, 1 producer), I don't think he's great He's not one of those "Oscar actors" like Tom Hanks , Sean Penn or DDL for some reason. I think even Dicaprio gets more respect from people (not the Oscars) as a great actor.

He was good in Training Day too. And his presence was tolerable, only because the character was so easy to hate. The fact that I couldn't stand the actor made the character that much more contemptible.

As I said, not a bad actor by any means, but to me, he's always Brad Pitt. Same with Tom Cruise. Plenty of fine performances, but he's never made me forget that I'm watching Tom Cruise. Just my opinion though.
