^^^ I think they're trying to keep up with the trends. I work in the "fashion" industry and this kinda wacky 80's looking designs are the type of things that my company reference when they want a new look.

After looking at all the new ones in this wave....I don't think they are bad...but I don't think that they're very good either.

There are two or three Adidas Originals shops in the US. Aside from that, I think some Foot Lockers may carry them in a limited way, but you might have to special order so it wouldn't help if you just wanted to browse.
