These categories should have been in there:

Action
Adventure
Comedies
Drama
Horror
Spy
Western
War
Animation
Musical
etc...

I listed the non-romantic comedy list a few posts back, and they did musicals in a previous year:

1. Singin' in the Rain
2. West Side Story
3. The Wizard of Oz
4. The Sound of Music
5. Cabaret
6. Mary Poppins
7. A Star Is Born
8. My Fair Lady
9. An American in Paris
10. Meet Me in St. Louis

Animation and Western actually were categories from last night, with Snow White and The Searchers getting the #1 spot on their respective lists. Their definition of "Epic" involved a film with large scale scenes set in a historical period, so the war movies apparently fit into that one with Saving Private Ryan getting put in there. But I would definitely like to see a distinct category for war movies in the future--there are so many good ones to choose from.

My least favorite list so far has been the "Thrills" one, which has lumped together action, adventure, suspense, horror, thriller, etc. Could have been narrowed down a bit.

the sci fi list was interesting in the fact that clockwork orange was on it, i know it's set in the future but i never felt that it was a sci fi story. especially since you get the book in the literature section not the sci fi section. 2001 should be number 1 though.

Yea, I was like 11 when I saw it in theaters. midnight show, dark and cold, the only people in the movie, it freaked the crap out of me.

That should do it :lol

I think i was like 13 when i rented it. It wasnt long after we had moved into our new house and i was home alone in this big, 3-story house with big windows and a creepy basement. That was a fun night :horror :lol But i havnt seen it in awhile. Need to get it for my collection.

No The Good The Bad and The Ugly?

Terminator > Terminator 2

Shrek shouldn't be on any top 10 list.

Was fun to watch. I was surprised SW and LOTR didn't come in at #1 and would like to have seen a category for which Indiana Jones could have come up in.

2001 is by far superior to Star Wars. And I think LOTR was too high.

Comparing movie to movie, 2001 is better. BUT Star Wars should have been in the fantasy list, which it would be tops there.

There is no science explained in Star Wars at all nor is science a central theme or even necessary to the story at all.

There's nothing SciFi about Star Wars. It should be on the fantasy list.

so science has to be explained in order for it to be scifi? there are a lot of sci fi books that have no explainations of science in them. just because they don't explain how the tech works doesn't mean its not sci fi.

No, but it should be more central to the theme than what Star Wars portrays.

If it Star Wars were being submitted as a short story, it would be rejected by Analog flat-out. It might have a chance in Asimov's but the better home would be Science Fiction and Fantasy magazine.

Star Wars is probably 85% fantasy, 15% sci-fi.

i'll agree that it is both but again to say there's nothing sci fi about it is just getting caught up in your own argument. Scanner darkly is sci fi yet the tech is not even central to the story it's more about deterioration of society by corporations and government through drugs, but its still sci fi.

Speaking of hardons for Kubrick and Hitchcock, AFI also seems to have one for the Disney company. I didn't get to watch the show and only now looked at the list for everything. The animated films are all Disney-related except Shrek!
