Curious story...
I was with my wife on vacation in Costa Rica while they were shooting this near Arenal Volcano last year. One day we were driving back from the reserve and they were shooting some scenes, we couldn't see much as they were literally surrounded by trees and security. But they told us to wait a few minutes before we could end up crossing the road.

Huge crew and tons of trailers and gear...

It's funny because a few years ago we were in Catemaco in Mexico, when they had just finished filming Apocalypto! :lol

Not a fan of Will Smith, less of a fan of his son, not remotely a fan of M. Night Shyamalan (who we all know will be the surprise third member of the cast with his most gratuitous cameo yet.) Not planning on seeing this one.

^ That's the subplot. He was heading to earth to get the perfect plant help him pass his hard stool sitting inside of him. Waiting for the moment.

That's going to be the twist. He uses his stool to crush and kill the alien monster at the end.

I might give this the benefit of the doubt. Maybe Shamalyan will surprise us all. Yes I said those words, and I mean it. :lol

But every piece of footage looks horrendous.

shamyamy would probably be living on a treehouse somewhere. he'll most likely come out as a deranged rapist when he meets the boy as he's been sexually deprived and all.

i should put this in spoilers.

sham (shm)
n.
1. Something false or empty that is purported to be genuine; a spurious imitation.
2. The quality of deceitfulness; empty pretense.

alyan - Alyans is a multipurpose stadium in Ma****, Mozambique, used mostly for football matches.

A whole stadium full of people with a feeling of emptyness. Perfect description of the theatre after watching one of his movies.

He was born to make this stuff. :lol

Saw the movie yesterday, crap, IMO.
I got an invite to an evening with Shymalaladingdong on Friday, trying to delete his last few movies from my head before going...

I saw a screener for this yesterday. (The only way I was going to see this is if I got free tickets so that worked out. :))
Overall I thought it was a solid film. Not particularly great, but it was entertaining and slightly better than average. Also, I know its not saying much but it was significantly better than M Night's previous attempts.

Given that this is an M Night film, let me say, there is NO twist. This is a straight action/adventure sci-fi film. No surprise time travel, training programs, ghosts, figments of character's imaginations, or otherwise. That beign said, the story is pretty average. There's nothing really unique about it, and you get the feeling this particular story could have taken place during any time period, albeit with minimal alterations to characters and dialogue.

While I am not a fan of Smith's son as an actor, he does at least an average job here. He honestly didn't bother me THAT much. I understand reviewers are claiming both Smiths manage to express only one emotion/face throughout the film, but in this case I feel said emotion was integral to the situation they were in and their personalities.

The effects were pretty decent. The concept design and its appearance on screen was good and different, but not ground breaking. Still, this is the factor that most interested me about this movie.

In the end, I don't feel like I wasted 100 minutes of my life on this, but it didn't intrigue me enough to give it another watch.
