Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!
Man, I LOVED the finale!
I found it incredibly satisfying:
Ward/May fight. I think Arrow still has the best action scenes on TV, but SHIELD has definitely kicked it up a notch. Brutal, and so great to see May kick his ass. Speaking of Ward, glad he was in full villain mode. No redemption arc, please. If he comes back next season as a reoccurring villain, I'm all for it.
Fitz/Simmons - Absolutely heartbreaking. Just totally, totally heartbreaking. I am intrigued to see where they go with this. I think it'll be an interesting journey for Fitz to deal with wherever he is now. I hope he's still on the team in some capacity. This scene was just so beautifully done. In the past I'd kind of railed against turning their bond into a romance. But it was totally worth it for this scene.
Deathlok/Garrett VS Fury/Coulson - I thought this was amazing. Now, here's where the writer's have to write around the budget a bit. We got all kinds of action this episode, but neither Garrett nor Deathlok really cut loose with their powers. I'm okay with that. We get glimmers of it. Garrett flinging Coulson across the room, for one. But it was fun, none the less. Also, the reappearance of the Destroyer gun was a fun call-back. Though, if I were Coulson, I might have gone for the biggest targets in the room instead of the foot soldiers? This also could have been staged with a bit more energy, menace. It was a little unclear why the soldiers didn't just rush Coulson immediately. But, I have to say I really enjoyed the solution, here. Skye freeing Deathlok's sun to turn hi against Garrett was a smart way out of the situation. Also, I thought the coda with Garrett at the end was pretty awesome, actually. A cool nod to his comic persona... right before getting blown away.
Rayna Stuff - I find Flowers very interesting. I like that she has an agenda all her own. I am also intrigued by what's going on with Skye's father, too. Hopefully someone turns into Graviton at some point.
Deathlok - I'd like to see more of him. But he still needs a better costume.
Fury/Coulson/The New Status Quo - I know it might seem flippant, the way that they dealt with Coulson's anger. He's been tortured by this all season, after all. But, I actually think given the context... and just having it come from Fury... I bought it. It made sense. I think Fury thinking of Coulson as an Avenger said everything. And in light of what happened to SHIELD, I think Coulson knows Fury was right to do what he did, because who else is going to rebuild it? I loved the mission Fury sent Coulson on. It's a great way to keep the series going. Plus, Coulson... Director of SHIELD! Yes! Also....
Koenig! Yes! He's back! That makes me happy. I hope he sticks around. I'd be up for him being a regular next season, frankly. But what IS up with him? Something going on there, for sure.
So, all in all... I had a lot of fun. Looking forward to next season. I hope they can keep the momentum they gained up.
