I don't believe that an absence of feminine beauty is a prerequisite for strength. It makes a good artistic device if you wish to detract attention from her gender so as to emphasize her virtue, but in reality, the two are not necessarily exclusive. For myself, the ideal heroine art would not separate the two. Idealized intellectual men certainly do not benefit from being depicted as effeminate.

Don't forget the fundamental difference between the sexes. Women need a reason. Men just need a place. :lol

I like them if they have lots of sex and violence, or if they're about poor people.

I'm not much for English upper crust, but I can see the appeal.
 
It's just as much about the lower and middle class as it is the "upper crust", but if you need sex and violence, I'd say skip it. It's very wholesome.
