Re: The next AH Comiquette-Black Queen up NOW.

I think it was meant as more of a guilt-trip type of post Mike.

I also find it hard to believe that a few people of thousands can deter and frustrate seasoned artists who's lively-hood is in mainstream media. It's like critics bashing a celebrity and that celebrity doesnt want to do any more interviews or press confs to promote their new upcoming movies anymore. doesnt make sense to me.

You might find it hard to believe, but its true. Define "seasoned"; does it mean heartless and without emotion? Art has its root in emotion; so why wouldn't some artists be emotional about their work?

Difference in celebrities and artists working for Sideshow. At the end of the day a celebrity can say; they bashed my movie, but at least I banked (fill in the blank with tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars). Sideshow artists don't have that sort of comfort to fall back on.

And who is to say that celebrities don't go home and have a hard time dealing with the feedback from their fans as well? Again; how are you in a position to make these sorts of statements?

Re: The next AH Comiquette-Black Queen up NOW.

I think it looks fantastic! Thank you Allison for braving the gauntlet and coming here to talk to the fans. Thank you Adam for the beautiful works you create. And thank you Tim for these wonderful sculpts.

Whoa Allison, this post makes it seem like if they made millions then the artists wouldn't care about negative responses, not I'm sure that was the point you were trying to make.

I see both sides but what I think it comes down to is most artists have perfectionist complexes they are never really truly happy with their artwork and people have a tendancy to point out flaws which the artist is aware of and it brings out that insecurity in their product despite the dozens of people loving their work and that complex is had by recording artists, actors and writers alike.

To what degree each artist has this is really unknown but it would explain how one or two comments can be taken so personally and really ruin the experience for someone in the creative field. I'm nowhere near the talent of Adam Hughes but I always throw away my art and stories mainly because I hate them despite someone or anyone telling me that they like it or that its great so I can see this...

seasoned - rendered competent through trial and experience; "a seasoned traveler"; "veteran steadiness"; "a veteran officer"

Allison, from my interpretation of you on these forums, it doesn't matter if someone were to give constructive criticism or completely unconstructive ones....the way you go about invalidating people's critiques would not change.

So by your assumption, just because someone makes hundreds of thousands of dollars, all of this type of criticisms and negative comments would suddenly now be ok to deal with? So i've now figured it out...the REAL reason why the artists dont come here to communicate with their fans and customers is because Sideshow doesn't pay enough. ah ha!

Sure everyone is human and deals with criticism in their own way, but if you can't deal with it, why are you in that type of business? you of all people should know this. And no, im not implying that artists have to be heartless and without emotion.

Re: The next AH Comiquette-Black Queen up NOW.

Although this character is boring to me, the sculpt and paint so far looks to be the best of the bunch. She has much more of a realism to her than the previous ones did, which imo were more comic-styled.

Re: The next AH Comiquette-Black Queen up NOW.

I want to begin by saying that I think the statue looks perfect the way it is and she doesn't need a "pointy" nose. As far as the arguing goes, I think there are extremes on both ends. There are those who just rudely tear down anything released (the Star Wars forum is the worst), and there are those who declare the greatness of every item Sideshow produces. I was initially very vocal about my disappointment and confusion in this choice, because I wanted a quality depiction of Jean Grey/Phoenix that I know could only come from Sideshow. I stopped when I saw it turning into a pointless arguement and decided to just not order it and I definitely did not bash the art itself.

I do NOT think people should be discouraged from expressing their opinions, which I see happening on these boards at times, but unfortunately, I see some people taking this WAY to far. People should be able to have an opinion without a sarcastic reply, but I think photoshopping the piece, the amount of negativity going around, and PMing Allison is just rude. If you don't like the way it looks, discuss it, but if you want to change the way the piece looks, order it and do a custom. Don't send PM's to Allison or pretend that you could create a better piece.

I love Adam's work and I proudly display my Black Cat and cannot wait for Rogue to come in. By the way Allison, if you ever decide to commission a PF/Comiquette of the Phoenix that you have on your pages, let us know! :bow

EDITED: HEY, Where did the picture go!!!

at the end of my post, I added " And who is to say that celebrities don't go home and have a hard time dealing with the feedback from their fans as well?" So it was understood that $$$ doesn't equal happiness; nor does seasoned = an emotional detachment.

And The Mike is correct; I didn't want it to sound like if the artists made millions, that they'd be less hurt by the harsh comments.

The Mike also really eloquently said what I wish I could have; you really put your finger on it when you said

Well; at this point I think I am going to take my leave of you guys. I've spent the better part of the day here, and I hope that I was able to help. I like to be available to you all to answer questions and provide things like links to sketch art and such. I'll check back in tomorrow; when I've gotten a bit more of my other obligations taken care of.

:peace

First allow me to preface by saying I do not disagree with you Dave, but these kind of comments always bring a chuckle.

Companies and representative of companies are more than willing to enlighten us on various boards that we are the minority in the collecting field. I believe even on Rebelscum it was noted back in Master Replicas' heyday that we were less than 1% of the buying population which is probably true across the board with most companies.

So, these companies have no problem letting us know how small of a minority we are, yet in that small minority there is an even smaller group who voice opposition to pieces and of that group its even smaller that just do it to bust balls. Its that "one bad apple" that is enough to scare off sculptors and artists because they internalize that small piece and ignore the dozens upon dozens upon dozens of "I love it, you walk on water" style comments? The funny thing is that sculptors, artists, etc choose to engage those negative comments then get frustrated when the courage of the internet allows that person to persist beyond belief while if they responded to actual critiques and then left it as is would be just fine.

My biggest complaint was that I felt Tim Miller didn't capture Adam's style. Then Allison posted Adam's control art, which proved that while not 100% exact Tim did a pretty good job capturing the essence. That was enough to satisfy me...she actually responded to a lot of people with that posting....

My point is that I find it funny that even less than 1% who actually dislike it and are busting balls are the ones that are being spotlighted as the business as usual postings....

Allison made the point, but what I was trying to convey, is why put up with it if you don't have to?

Say you're an accountant and there's a fan forum for accountants and when you go there there's some critique of your annual report that you worked long and hard on. Do you try to defend that report or do you just ignore it and not visit that forum again?

I can go on Amazon and read scathing reviews of projects that I've worked on. But I chose not to read those reviews - who needs the headache?
