ALIEN and ALIENS Thread...

I will start cancelling some of the underwhelming SW figures from SST to make room in my budget fro these babies!

OK, so apparently this 1/6th scale Alien by HT is 17 inches!? Someone translated the text in another thread. That's way too big. Certainly they're not counting the tail or he'd be way too short. My only assumption can be that the measurement is to compensate for the crouched position. Maybe crouched he's more like 14" tall. Or maybe the translation is wrong.

I'm hoping for more pictures of the figure before I pass judgement, but so far I'm not crazy about this particular Alien representation. It looks rough in texture, without the Giger detail that really makes this monster awesome.

I wish someone would do an Alien the way SS did the Creature -- with a rubber suit. I know that creates other problems but I just think it would be cool. Especially if they made the "suit" sectional to allow for joint movement. Sectioned rubber pieces wouldn't be any more obtrusive than jointed arms and legs.

Anyway, we'll see. I'm gonna need some alien for Ripley!

In any case picking one up for Hicks to stuff a shotgun into his mouth might just be what I need to hold me until the Ripper arrives...

I think it's a hybrid between the one you're talking about and the current AvP, sided heavily on the classic look. And he looks pretty darn sweet to me!

This is the ALIEN...

Strange color, but classic design. This is a Sega Alien model kit...very little articulation and its a bit short (right at 12") but its THE ALIEN.

I know it looks like a man in a suit...but it is. I like it.

I totally agree with you Wor-Gar! That's the alien figure I want to have terrorizing my shelves. And I love the earlier idea of making a rubber suited figure like the Creature or Metaluna Mutant

Yep, that's a beautiful figure/model kit!
However, I've always felt it was based more on the proportions of the stunt man who did the difficult action sequences instead of Bolaji Badejo. Giger himself bitched about how he had to work the tailor-made suit (for Bolaji) around a much shorter man. There's a few photos of the stunt man without the alien head during pauses in the shooting of the Brett death sequence.
Anyway, that figure looks somewhat "squat", IMHO.

For overall proportions I've always liked the Aoshima figure best. McFarlane's isn't far either, it's just the head that is way too small.

On the subject of the HT alien figure, it represents the AvP alien, which was basically identical to the Alien: Resurrection creature, the only difference I have been able to make out being the feet. The A:R aliens had "dog legs", meaning they basically walked on their toes, giving them that "triple-jointed-dinosaur-leg" look, whereas the AvP aliens have more "normal" feet.

I still haven't put the other 2 together yet. I had a broken piece on Vasquez's chestplate to fix and I'm still trying to figure out how the plate goes on. And I'm dreading Apone's seperated abdomen...

So much dread? Are they that much a pain in the a** to put together? I have all 3 coming sometime in the next 2 days. Should I be afraid?

They're not snap-kits, so you will have to work to put them together properly... but overall I didn't find it that difficult.
