Just received this. IMHO, this is one of the most impressive pieces I've ever seen in SS's repertoire. Here's the biggest problem - it's almost impossible to photograph - every pic makes it look strangely proportioned and "horsey." The actual figure is far from it; rather, its almost perfectly proportioned (in comparison to my 1:1 full size Big Chap) and the facial detail is very very nice. Paint apps on mine are detailed and mufti-layered, so I'm pretty happy.

Overall, I would say that this ranks close to the CM, if not on par. I slightly prefer the CM pose, but the SS post is exquisite in person (again, cannot be well captured photographically). It falls short of the Sano piece (which I also own), though I would argue that Sano's sculpt, though proportional, is slightly idealized and more precise the even the original suit.

About price - I bought this from a collector for $650 shipped. At that price, its a steal. It's huge. Really huge. At $799, it's still a steal. You get so much detail and presence with this sculpture that you'll immediately feel the quality when you see it in person.

Prognostications - this is, in the purest form, a sleeper. Think the Warrior Maquette, the Pumkinhead Maquette or the original Venom bust. Collectors will ignore this one until it dries up, then watch what happens to the price. I anticipate that in 2 years, this piece will be going for $1200 - 1400. It's not only that good, it's the kind of piece people will hold on to because of its presence.

Question is..do I need it if I already have the CM Alien? I really like this piece but idk if it's in the budget. I think you're right about the price going up, I'm surprised it's not sold out with a 1200 edition size.

I agree with the top part of a lot. Very hard to take great shots. I just sold mine unfortunately, but you make great points. I wouldn't put it as high as Pumpkinhead or the 1st Venom though. Those 2 are flawless. I could never get past those hands on this piece.

I think if you're happy with the CM Alien and don't feel the need for a second large-scale Chap, then you're probably ok. I would say that, if you can afford it, put it on flex or, alternatively, sell a piece or two. I think you'll be glad you did.

I wasn't going to spend the money on this one because I had the CM, but eventually felt I would regret not getting it. I've only ever once regretted not getting something - the Pumpkinhead Maquette. It was only through allot of diligence and dealing that I eventually got an artist proof. Though the Big Chap is produced in larger quantities, I didn't want to be chasing him in a few years.

As much as I love my Alien Maquette
-- it bothers me that some of the details, the repetitive patterns seemed rushed or glossed over -- particularly the sternum spurs...and maybe some of the spinal details -- I love the head and the ribbed parts of the arms and legs...but the spurs and the shape of the ribs kinda is a sore spot for me...

The CM and the Sano are very specifically sculpted in terms of the tectured details-- nothing sculpterly or impressionist there...very precisely sculpted - (not necessarily the correct shaped head on the CM =P) - but at least the face and fingers are fine despite the head =)

That aside- alien collectors need one im the collection for its sheer size...esp if you missed the CM

I've loved the pose from the start. It's elegant, beuatiful and creepy all mixed together. I feel it really caputures Giger's A L I E N to the T. And in two more payments it will be mine. :yess: I love how peolpe are poseing him with pics. I bought a set a Lobby Cards to display on the wall next to him. It's gunna look sweet with the Big Chap, Palisades Space Jockey and pics. My little A L I E N shrine.

Like a lot of folk I'm still on the fence about going for this badboy. The only thing that bothers me is the matt dried up look to the paint. Has anyone tried to add a gloss overcoat to it yet?

despite the head =)

That's the most imporant part to defines the A L I E N, is the head.
The CM one is cool. But, I don't care for the pose. Looks like he just got cuaght by a spot light playing with himself, "no, looks where my hands are".) The Sando is to statice a pose. Nothing exciting there. The only difference I can see is the wrists. The SS looks more like Giger's ture A L I E N:

The sano sculpt wasnt meant to be exciting...it was meant to be a replica of h.r.gigers original statue ... And it is exacting in every detail of giger's "true alien", and its precisely what I am saying, in terms of the original design and precision, the roswell statue is by far the most accurate of the alien statues, minus suit gloves and some mouth tendons...unfortunately the ss maquette has sloppy bone details and blobby ribs especially when you study them very closely...again, the flat tail, ridges, the soft sternum spurs, the doughy ribs....compared to the roswell, those particular parts of the ss look like someone rolled them in play-do, but the muscle ribbing details on the ss are great with interesting texture

This is the Roswell (1/3) I couldnt find a decent pic of the 1/5 in a grey color -- but they're identical, so here is the ribcage with the sternum vs the Sideshow...this is prior to molding but the shapes are the same as the final product.

Notice the sternum spurs on the left a very well defined and have a definite shape--almost like a 4-cornered tent vs the tabs on the right...The details on the laft are far close to the alien either as the original maquette or even on the suit...the proportions of the details are pretty dead on...

I see what you mean. Over all the SS A L I E N, in my opinion, looks the best.

If you're truly on the fence, I suggest you stay there. At $800, you really should love it. We all know there will be other Sideshow Alien statues produced in the future (probably near future). Just wait for one that makes you say "I gotta have that", otherwise, don't let your cash burn a hole through your pocket.

:goodpost: That's good advice. I have seen people here on the forums hinting at a new Queen piece. Just rumors at this point, but if they do a large maquette (better yet, 1/4 dio with eggs) I will buy that for sure.

Yeah your right I tend to do that:(

Although I plan to only have one piece to represent Alien and this would be ideal as it's 1/4 to fit in with my PF collection so far. And I really don't fancy paying scalper prices once it sells out!
