New MP Rodimus

Masterpiece-Rodimus-2.0.jpg

Was there really a need for a new MP Hotrod? :lol

Hope Galvatron is coming as well. The DX-9 one gets all the details right, but the proportions are awful. X-Transbots might be good, but 200 bucks good? The rapid DX-9 release also has me suspicious there might be an offiical one coming.

Guys, I'm sooo conflicted. I need a Galvatron and this one looks great, but what if Takara comes out with one? I really don't know what to do.

If I were ordering one now I'd go with XTransbots as once we see a full prototype I have no doubt that it'll blow the DX09 one away and it's unlikely Takara would do any better, if they even make him....new Decepticon molds don't seem like a high priority for them right now.

Having said that, the new Hot Rod/Rodimus from Takara will inevitably spark new rumors about an official Galvatron so maybe the chances have improved slightly.

Yeah, looks like HR this time.

And if you ask any MP09 owner, yes, Hot Rod is needed. It's "transformation" was clearly an afterthought and it sucks. He's to tall in HR mode, shouldn't he be around Ironhide's size?

Actually MP09 was designed as Hot Rod first, the decision to add the Rodimus mode was taken when the figure was already well into development.

The team tried several ways to accomplish this including having the trailer becoming armor but decided against that because it didn't work adequately and after trying a couple other things they ended up with what was released.

Whilst MP09 was being finalised Shogo Hasui started on MP10 and based the height of it on MP09 in Rodimus mode so the scale reboot seems to have sprung from that decison.

( This info comes from a Japanese book about the line which has comments from all the designers. I don't own it, but I'd like to read more of it if there's some translations out there. )

That's great (and unheard to me) info, thanks.

Makes a lot of sense too, as the "Hot Rod" mode was somewhat scaled to MP01 and 05.

I wonder if this release will take some notes from Carry (3P Rodimus). I love how they implemented the trailer into a backpack, that's huge. And even though Carry looks great, he's just not MP caliber at least to me, so this news has me really excited.

Will this just be HR? Or the same thing as MP 09?(I would HAVE to sell my V2 MP09 sooner rather than later of that's the case). I really hope they take their time and release something that's actually sturdy enough to transform without the fear of breaking it just by moving a freaking leg. MP09 was quite ambitious to begin with, and the end result shows it.

And yes, like you said, the possibilities of an official Galvatron are now higher. Will hold on buying the 3P options for now.

No problem, I found it in the threads at TFW so I thought I'd pass it on for people here who may not use that site.

If we go by the silhouette it looks like it might just be Hot Rod this time, which potentially means a less complex transformation and a more sturdy figure.

Given Takara's penchant for redoing characters I also wouldn't be suprised to see a completely new Rodimus happen as well, if it happened I'd be intrested to see if it did borrow anything from Carry which is a nice toy, but like DX09's other figures looks more like a glorified Classics figure than a proper Masterpiece.

Rumor has it that Takara Shockwave is the next large size MP to be revealed and by the end of the year. Guess we'll see...

This has been a rumor along with Megatron since I have been paying attention. Unless I see some kind of source it's not something I would even entertain as likely.

I just looked into it and if it's the same rumor as in the TFW thread than the only basis for it is that two third party companies are releasing one soon so that must mean Takara is making one too. Which doesn't actually make any sense and is the same rumor that people started spreading around the first time Quakewave was released.

likely true as Fan Toys delayed all of their remaining scheduled 2015 products (after Bombshell is released) to rush out there re-issue Shockwaves...they know what's up

I just assumed they were rushing it out to beat Quake Blast to market. They seem pretty determined to make sure Cloud 9 fail since they pressured retailers not to stock it.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels MP Ironhide is more than a bit off.

I preordered one anyway, because, well, you know, it's MP Ironhide. But it certainly makes me feel better about preordering FansToys' Hound, and I'll likely be getting that BadCube Sunstreaker as well. I just can't bank on Takara making "the best" MP carbot anymore, now that Kobayashi's at the helm.

And quite frankly, I do not like that little "G1 toy reference" he put in the windshield. I hope that's optional, or at least, not very noticeable.

Sucks to hear about TRU MP Starscream's quality. Glad I got MP-11 but I feel bad for the folks who waited!

Oops, double post.

Guess I might as well talk about MP Hot Rod. I guess that's cool. :)
