I blame scalpers. Thats why the Biker scout PF had an ES of 1500 and this had an ES of 1000. They all ordered... but when other things came out that they thought they could flip they dropped them. :(

I don't know if it's scalpers so much as people who place a lot of importance on edition size. For some people, having something that is very limited is almost as important as the nature of the piece itself. And of course it's true that having a large edition size does affect resale value, so even people who aren't going to scalp something might be reluctant to buy if the ES is too high. You don't want to feel like your $800 investment is going to go down in value.

Invest in the stock market. Collect for yourself-- buy what you want in your collection.

People trying to make $$$ off this hobby are quite ridiculous.

Very good point. When "collectors" consider future profits to be more important than the enjoyment and satisfaction derived from the statue itself, then it becomes more of a business than a hobby. I for one don't mind if the statues I buy don't rise in value as long as I enjoy seeing my collection every day - it's the wow factor of seeing a statue that always push me to buy a piece.

Hey, don't tell me. I'm just explaining what some people think. Still, when you can buy a piece for considerably under retail a few months after it's released, it does make you think about paying full price for the privilege of getting something first. I'm glad I only paid $600 shipped for my Biker Scout and not $800+.

And I have to say statues are looking better than the stock market these days. :lol

I totally agree. 90% of the people order hoping its a low edtion then cancel. Then they say too much stuff coming. Its a joke. Whats the next grail? So many fake collectors out there. I can't believe people put orders in for $300 figures and arent sure they want it. You got almost a year to figure out how to pay for the statue, but that time isn't good enough. Its a joke.

Im sure sideshow has a formula for determining edition sizes and they anticipate future cancellations while determining it. Just because something has an ES of 1500 doesnt mean that exactly 1500 orders were placed on it. THey have to take into account how many each of their retailers will receive as well as online preorders and who knows what else.

You guys are looking at it way too black in white, blaming high edition sizes on people canceling at the last minute.

Secondly, WHY should we have to only invest in the stock market? Last I checked, you can invest in anything you want to spend your money on in this country. People invest in real estate, some invest in stocks, some invest in various hobbies whether it be collectible statues, cards, comics, etc, some invest in all of them at once.

Calling it ridiculous is what is really ridiculous. you guys are just mad that you miss out on something and have to pay more for it. Hell, i miss out on stuff too and pay my fair share to get them later on. These are not necessities, these are luxury items...No one NEEDS to own any of these things.

I think insurance companies running our economy into the ground is ridiculous. I think CEOs going on trips to the bahamas or wherever just after the 700billion dollar bailout is ridiculous. I think people selling bottled water for $20 each after hurricane Katrina is ridiculous. I think gas companies raising gas prices is ridiculous. Get some perspective into the real world yeah?

...and I'm sure part of that formula factors in the initial website preorders placed by collectors, flippers/scalpers.

If they record 500 pre-orders for the first day sales, then chances are they will forecast a much larger allocation for retailer sales.

Why do you think it takes them anywhere from 1-3 weeks to post an ES?

But then again, Sideshow (and this forum, for that matter) greatly encourages people to immediately preorder anything they have the slightest interest in and decide if they really want it later. When things often sell out in minutes or hours, you don't have a lot of time to mull over a purchase. We always see a rash of people canceling just before a product is about to ship, and that's not because they are all potential scalpers who are canceling because they don't think they can sell something. Most just decided they didn't want it or couldn't afford it. My personal opinion is that scalping is only really a big deal for very limited pieces (things like the faux bronze or SSE pieces). There's no way that hundreds of people ordered the Biker Scout for the purposes of selling it and then cancelled because they found out the edition size was too high. After all, Star Wars PFs almost never sell over the original retail price!

What I'm saying is that Sideshow knows from experience more or less how many orders to expect, and that there will be quite a few cancellations before something ships. They can work all of this into some kind of formula for determining the edition size. With the Biker Scout, I think the fact that it was so much more expensive than any other PF released before may have messed up their calculations. In short I don't think blaming it all on scalpers makes sense.

Your sense of inflated self-importance is ridiculous. How's that for a perspective?

well said icruise. Didnt really think about that comparison to items such as biker scout PF or any other normally high priced item, but it is true.

I must be important enough for you to reply to my post. And after my lengthy post that's the only thing you could come up with to say? Good job. :rock

I hope i get the honor of scalping something to you one day :rock :rock :rock :lol

Sleep deprived and lack time. A 6 month old and a 2 and a 1/2 year old will do that to you.:sleep

As far as the scalping to me--- That'll never happen. I'd love to add the PF Cap to my collection or maybe the PF Hulk, but the prices are ridiculous:naughty and what the buyer is willing to pay (or rather "buyers") dictates price.

As for spelling-- me sorry.

so annnnnyway, Second chance exc Anakin still in stock at SSC. It boggles my mind how tuskin raiders and Uruk Hai can sell out and the main character in the star wars universe doesnt!
