Spent a portion of the day casting away...had a lot of mistakes in the process over the week..with my mistakes I tried to cut a couple helmets and make a stunt. I made a really, really, really, really rough version to test the look. I think it works, I just used too thick of back portion of helmet and dome, so the front mask didn’t sit flush against the forehead of the helmet. Also, one ear broke off and I tried to glue it with putty.

Here is a rough mock up..but I think it can be done if I somehow manage to cast a thin front and back to piece together. It required that I sanded the black rubber seam down and top of helmet to imitate the front mask that sits under the dome of helmet.

Thoughts?

Nice work Will. That would be amazing if you can produce some stunt helmets too. If you can and their not too much trouble can i request in my order to have 4 Stunt and 3 Hero please mate?

That has a nice look to it -- to get pedantic and geeky for a second (because that's what we love to do) -- they're all stunts as evidenced by the longer frown with more teeth, with the other defining factors for hero vs. stunt being bubble lenses and position of brow trim. That said, the stunts had variable brows, so that's still a really nice touch.

What I might suggest, and I think you're headed in that direction anyway -- is to cast a version with the brow trim sanded away, at which point you or another customizer can simply add black trim and position it to taste.

It might take me a while to produce a nice version, and even if I do I don’t think it will be perfect. I’ll try.

The brow is really developed by the mask being lowered downward, still attached at same point at ear, so it gives the impression the rubber strap moved, but that’s not what’s happening. What I need to do is angle the forehead when I sand it so it gets a nice flush fit and sand the dome nicely on the inside so it’s a thin and snug fit between mask and dome. I’ll do my best. You’re welcome to sand your own rubber brow down, but it’s too much dust and I don’t want to buy too many silicone molds...starts to add up. One day I’ll make a good stunt.

As far as hero helmets go, I’ve started customizing a Marmit bucket and I think I can produce a decent hero helmet. Thts soon to follow.

Actually you're right, it was the "cap" that moved. That makes it more complicated.

The Force is strong with you!

The two main reasons my sandtrooper stunt looks so goofy is because I didn’t sand he dome enough at an angle and he dome was too thick on the inside. Once I can fix that, and extent the mask by he ear area, I think I can produce a pretty decent helmet.

Here’s my start at the modified Marmit Hero Helmet. I’m working on making the jowel more pronounced (in progress) as well as the outlines around the eyes (next).

Modded Marmit looks amazing. Master class in ANH stormie helmets happening here.:clap

When it's complete, this project is going to deliver something Sideshow and even HT couldn't deliver (in all their iterations) - very close to 100% screen accurate 1/6 ANH stormie helmets.:yess:

Sometimes i bite off more than I can chew. The hero helmet v.1 is almost ready for casting, but then I will need to modify the eyes, I can't afford to blow it on the rough draft at this early age.

Good stuff! I will also need a couple of those :)

yeah...you need two to escort Chewy, right? I want two just for the photo op.

Lol, thanks man...I think it will be cool when it’s done, not perfect, but close enough.

Hi Solo_bones. you can use micro saw blades that you can attach to an x-acto knife to make cutting easier and prevent breaking. :)

Wow! Awesome...thank you.

I'll be up for a few of these as well Will! Looking great!!

As far as the Sandtrooper initial cast, I think your on the completely the right tracks, as the faceplate on the Sandtrooper helmet has a bigger forehead area which can't be achieved by just moving the brow trim up as that then makes the dome height wrong. I think the angle that you have positioned that back portion of the helmet cast in the top pic is spot on. 100% Sandie right there :wink1:
