As far as I remember they had the wrong material all along, including the proto.

Oh that same old thing. Lots of the figures don't use the exact material from the film, it's about the best look in the scale not exactness, Maul should have clothes like the PF and 1:1 bust material but it's a smooth material instead, it happens. That's why I'm not concerned with Luke's shirt, it's a different shade and doesn't look as worn out but it looks to lay on the figure just fine and that's what counts to me, that the overall figure's look is natural and gives a sense of a miniaturized person.

I don't think Josh is disputing that they aren't saving money by sourcing materials in China. What he is saying it is that some are spinning that fact as a bit of "bait and switch" on Sideshow's part. Which in the end is pure speculation on anyone's part and slightly paranoid from my vantage point.

However, who's to say they saved much at all by going with that fabric? I don't see where its a safe assumption they saved this great amount doing what they did.

If thats the case, then its a bigger crime.

To make a negative change for $ is understandable, though maybe contemptable.

To make a negative change for whim means someone isn't thinking or their heart isn't in it.

Maulfan, I agree about changes being made to get a good look on a toy. But my problem is how similar the material of Qui-Gon is to Mace on the toy when they are not similar on film.

Mace toy can be different from Mace film and Qui-Gon toy can be different than Qui-Gon film, but Mace toy should not be same as Qui-Gon toy. That me. I put a lot of weight into the costume...even more so than face sculpt.

The reason I even posted the question is because the prototype fabric looked so damn good. With Trevor's amazing sculpt, this could have easily been one of the best figures Sideshow has produced so far. In comparison to the prototype, the production tunic looks more like angels clothing. How could I not voice my disappointment?

Not to beat the same old drum, but look how much different the lighting is on the two pictures. Sure, its not the same material (weave on the production looks larger) but I also don't think it will be as yellowish in person.

:lol :lol :lol

The weave on the proto was just about perfect... :( sigh :(.... oh well... I am still betting this figure kicks butt in person.

I tend to agree, thats why I haven't the guts to cancel...just saying how much BETTER it could have been.

This is "off-topic" but I love your icon picture ProgMatinee! Bill and Ted! Wyld Stallions Rule! :D

I have a Keanu Reeves headsculpt to make Ted. I gotta get an Alex Winter head for Bill. Maybe Ada Chan can make me one! I want a set of 12" figures for Bill and Ted someday. The first movie is still one of my favorites.

Back "on-topic" now. I hope that Luke's tunic is correct. I am thinking about lightly dying mine...but at the same time I don't want to mess it up either.

Sideshow was supposed to start charging credit cards for the exclusive Luke today. Anyone get charged for theirs yet?

Nope this is the Trevor.

Mat did all the previous Lukes though.

Yup, nothing against Mat's work, he did great, but his and Trevor's styles aren't even in the same ballpark, 2 very different artists when it comes to portrature, but both skilled sculptors.

Well, my pre-auth went through... $82!!!!! :google

If the tunic looks anything like the new SSC pics, I'm kicking some ass. :maul

I canceled my pre-order on this one. The Tunic issue really got me. The prototype just looked to good to be true. Fortunately there is a retailer in my area that carries Sideshow product. A first hand inspection is needed before buying this one.
