I think the boots still look great actually (I remember when they first announced Luke the boots were my biggest concern).

This has been an on going problem with SSC since the inception of their SW line. I was lambasted over at AFT (before I got kicked off for lambasting Hasblow!:banana:naughty) for calling SSC out on this very issue. Even to the point that one of the moderators CALLED ME personally and asked that I give SSC a break in my post because the guys at SSC will be relunctant to give them any "breaking news" if the site is filled with guys trashing their product. Along with the thread, me and a couple of other guys submitted the very types of questions that you guys are asking and we asked that they be forwarded to SSC. The Mod (so I'm told) took them over there and based on the hard line questions, someone told him (keep in mind, I got this story second hand) to basically get lost.

Now my gripe has not been the fact that their product has some obvious faults , as all product lines do. But my issue with them was all the talk about their exacting standards and playable museum quality figures. IMO, figures like Anakin doesn't have either. His gimp arm doesn't give him great playability and that neanderthal head sculpt...well lets just say I'm anxiously waiting for Darren to finish my new one.

On top of the Anakin, I think the Mace was marginally successful (I know I'm in the minority on that one but I think SS could have done better), the GIGANTIC Bespin Han and Jedi Luke heads, Lukes monkey arms, Darth Mauls monkey arms, the terrible Yavin Luke paint job and the crappy ASB body of course.

Granted they've had quite a few successes as well...Jabba, boush, old ben and bespin luke to name a few. But I think folks get these figs wanting THE quintessential(sp?) representation of a character from a certain film and unfortunately, SS has not been able to deliver that consistantly.

I've spoken with Scott at SDCC and a few of the other guys and what seems to be the issue is that they are just not simply over there enough to make these things exactly like the prototype everytime. Add the need to keep to a production schedule so that product is not late and it doesn't delay future product AND you keep your production slot with the company and compromises have to be made. The tunic is different...is it different enough to trash the fig, well the jury's still out on that. But I'm pretty sure SSC wanted it as close to proto as they could make it. These production companies don't just work for SS. They produce the production piece, SS gets it, they make whatever changes they can and then we get it. Now if they said , "Hell no on the tunic! Find the right material!" They may have had to delay the figure until who knows when AND forfeit their production slot to another company...all because they (manf.) had to go out and source some material they didn't have at the time. Would that have been a good thing, well thats debatable. But SSC apparently made the call...we'll just have to wait and see if it was the right one.:D

I think all you guys should wear an Irish Jedi t-shirt to SDCC to take the heat off him. Otherwise they might put a hit out on him.

What do you guys think of the boots thus far? I can't remember the proto. Did those change?

The boots look great! Particularly the wrappings. I was very skeptical that those would turn out as close in production, but they did. Really, it's just the hair color (which was bad on the proto anyway) and the tunic that are the big gripes, so far (with the tunic obviously being the bigger one).

If this is accurate, then their production business model indeed blows. :monkey4

Yup.. It seems to me that Sideshow is just on the cusp of going from a domestic collectibles company to a world-wide one. They just need to take that extra little step and hire some folks in China (or send someone there full time to work and live).
