Seeing how Sideshow never did figure out how to produce a realistic human head on-par with 1/6 state of the art, these "Thunderbirds"-style animated figures are a great fit for the company.

While bodies have been a problem in their entire 15 year history with SW 1/6, their accessories, weapons and outfits have for the most part been close to HT quality.

I wonder how animated figures work within an overall SW license - if Sideshow are now restricted to animated likenesses only now? They haven't debuted a new SW 1/6 figure in nearly THREE years, so it suggests this may be a new limited piggy-back 1/6 SW license of some kind.

I assume there is little chance of these selling out in pre-order so I'll wait for final production photos and in hand reviews.

Anakin in particular looks like he walked straight out of the screen. Very impressive.

Considering the scale of the Clone wars fan community, and how much they've wanted these, I'm expecting that they may well sell out.

Holy **** I had no idea I wanted 1/6 animated Clone Wars figures so bad. I?ve considered going back and getting the old Sideshow CW Anakin from the earlier seasons, but this is even better.
As strange as the animated style is for 1/6 figures, I think Clone Wars NEEDS it. Even though I grew up with the prequels and have an affinity for them as a result, the animated series was my bread and butter and the way it recontextualized the characters makes me compartmentalize it even though it?s supposed to be the same thing as the prequels. Even though Anakin and Obi-Wan represent the Hayden and Ewan versions from the films, they?re so well done in the show that they?re practically reimaginings of those characters, and I think using the live-action likenesses for Clone Wars versions feels strange to me as a result.

They do look great and screen-accurate, but I've always been in the "realistic camp". I have one SW collection and I want it all to be uniformal. I can see the appeal of animated-looking figures as well though. But here's how I see it. I used to collect a line called Minimates. They began fairly simplistic and Lego-esque, but as the line progressed, they got more and more detailed and "realistic". Finer lines, more expressions, the hairpieces had more ridges and detail than just being smooth blocks, the abs were more defined, and so on. Eventually they started doing figures based on the movies, and they fit right in there with the others. And as the years passed, the detailing got better and better. At some point they started doing specifically animated style figures. More "blocks of colour", less fine attention, "smoother" in general. Well, I couldn't pose those with my other figures. There was a stark difference between the animated Thor with his monochrome arms and blocky expression, and my MCU Thor with his Hemsworth likeness, chainmaled arms and braided hair, and my comic based Thor with his stern look, ornate armour and weathered Mjolnir. The animated ones I bought as placeholders or if they were costumed characters and they didn't clash that much. But by and large I was a fun of the more detailed approach. Same with this. If I spend 300 euros on a dolly, I want it to fit in with the rest of my realistic dollies. I want my collection to be uniformal. That's the whole appeal of the scale. The detail and realism.

However, like I said, I can see the other argument. You want what's on screen. You don't want a realistic Fred Flintstone as mentioned above, you want a cartoony one. And I get that. But Star Wars is a pimarily live-action universe that spans every medium. I want my ESB Luke to blend in with my TFU Starkiller, my TCW Ventess and my KotOR Zayne Carrick. The last few are hypotheticals, but if they were made I wouldn't want some weird "stylized" Zayne based on the comic book art. I'd want one that's as realistic as possible. Again, I get wanting Animated figures, and I'm glad the option exists. If I had the money I could buy a couple of characters in that style as well, as a secondary collection, to represent that specific era. But realism comes first in this hobby. For me at least.

Its a SS figure, once it sells out they will put it right back up for PO like they have been doung with R2 and 3PO tor years.

They are going to make a ton of these and keep making them until they don't sell anymore. I don't expect they will sell out before release.

And it's really a relative minority of a large fan community that spends hundreds of dollars each on expensive figures.

I don't want to get too excited about that line. I've been in that game for too for to put my hopes too high. Not expecting Sideshow to got that deep even though i'd love them to prove me wrong.

Very cool to see these being made. Not sure I?ll bite since I have the HT on order but very tempting.

Side note: looks like obi wan has the high ground again.

Confirmed double jointed elbows and knees during today's stream if you are wondering. They also said it was still in development and more accessories are coming with these.

Anakin looks perfect, but Obi-Wan just looks off, the face isn't quite there (maybe it's the expression) and those gauntlets just look plain, they need some more weathering or something.

These would look great with a HT head swap [emoji102]

I thought that also, but I think the lack of weathering may just be as a way to accurately reference the animation. Was there visible weathering on them? I honestly don't recall. I think Obi's face is not quite sharp enough. Where they nailed the ridges in Anakin's face, Obi is just a tick too smooth... Still pretty cool these are being made though!
