I think this will be Marvels first "disappointment" at the box office. It will do ok, but I don't think the passing comic fan knows who Ant Man even is. The die hard fans do, but I don't see people lining up for midnight showings for this one.

I'm nuts, but I wasn't thinking of A2 :lol No, I was thinking about The Incredible Hulk film, their first "disappointment."

Oh, yeah it wasn't a huge box office hit, but was it expected to be huge? I thought they were just hoping to get the character back on solid footing after the TERRIBLE "Hulk" film by Ang Lee.

I think Ant Man is going to be big...if they do it right. They can show a whole new world...our world, but from his point of view, like Honey I shrunk the Kids, but with awesome action and some really crazy and creative action sequences with him using his powers. Not to mention, the success of A2 will help Antman.

Ant-Man is like Jurassic Park to me. I know so little about it that I can't form a strong opinion. I would assume that the Disney marketing machine will go into full swing, and that will certainly help. Casual fans are open to whatever Marvel puts out (see GOTG), and of course, that's what will determine if this is a big success or not. The geeks won't play much of a role, despite how annoyed they might be with the direction of the film, Wright's leaving, etc. Having Rudd in there suggests it will have strong comedic elements that could appeal to audiences. Douglas is probably still a draw on some level. The rest is just a huge question mark though. How significant will the action component be? What kinds of guest stars might rear their head? Will the villain be compelling? Will the shrinking gimmick be played up, or more of an afterthought? How strong will they be pushing the "jewel thief" movie angle that has been rumored? Will it be as fun as GOTG, or something a bit more moody considering that early shot they showed off of Rudd living in a van down by the river? Maybe that in itself will be played up for laughs.

I was disappointed to see no mention of Ant-man 2 in the big Marvel announcement. I suck at math but it seems like that schedule streached out to almost 2010 which would leave a 4 or 5 year gap between Ant-man 1 and 2. Also no mention of Hulk or Black Widow movies.

He'll definitely be part of the restructured Avengers team and play a big role in the upcoming movies. Probably take Stark's position as unofficial team leader.

Unofficial team leader? That's caps job.
Though I would agree that Stark was really the leader in Avengers 1, Rogers' job will be feeding worms, probably after Civil War. So, unless Bucky Cap takes that on, not sure who it's gonna be. Not Thor, Hulk, Widow, or Hawkeye IMO. With Stark potentially leaving as well, that does raise an interesting question of who takes charge. I wouldn't be shocked if it was someone left field like Ant-Man, Starlord, or even Strange.

No, Capt was the leader of the team in Avengers one. He got the team together, and he was calling all the shots during the battle against the aliens. Even Stark was being told what to do during the invasion by Capt. Is Capt the main character? Not really. He's like Cyclops in the XMen films, the leader of the team, but not the protagonist.
