I read elsewhere that it was informally revealed by one of the cast members (I believe Lilly) that

Hope is the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, who were classic super heroes years ago, presumably Ant-Man and Wasp.

Which doesn't answer your question exactly, but gives some hints of what might be going on here.
