A helpful commenter on Cinematical has pointed out a recent interview PiQ magazine did with Edgar Wright. In it, the writer/director briefly discusses his upcoming projects, Scott Pilgrim, The World's End, Them, and Ant-Man, and reminds you he was directing the amazing British comedy Spaced at 24. If you're like me, this last point will cause you a few moments of head-in-your-hands self-evaluation/self-pity. Don't worry; as usual, this will pass.

Here's what he said regarding Ant-Man:

I wrote that for Marvel and I’m in the process of doing a second draft. I had a lot of fun writing that script, I wrote it with this guy Joe Cornish, who is a really funny UK writer. It’s not really an out-and-out comedy. I think some people assume that it must be a spoof, but it’s not really. I guess it’s as funny as something like Iron Man is, it’s on that level of entertainment, really. It’s a big, high concept, special effects comic book adaptation, and very character-led and we found a way of… I guess in a similar way to Iron Man, the thing that worked with that and hopefully will with this is that it’s a different way of seeing a superhero origin, because you’ve seen so many of them and we really tried to figure out a fresh take on that story. So it’s definitely a Marvel film but it’s got a little twist on it in terms of the way that it plays out.

I've already decided this will be my favorite superhero movie alongside The Dark Knight, which I'm also just assuming will be very good. So don't screw anything up over the next several years, Wright, or it's going to completely eff up my entirely speculative list of great superhero movies.

Ant man is such a GNAY character. i would love for this to be good, but i think they could have chosen a better character to make a movie of.

this is one character i do not want to see have a movie. why cant we have another good dc comics movie, maybe about the flash, or wonder-woman or any other interesting character besides batman and superman.

He's a pretty lame character in my opinion, but I can tell that they're trying to get all the original (or near original) Avengers members together for the movie.

Cap came along in #4.

I think Vision/Wanda movie would be good! I always like Vision, whatever happened to that fella, stopped reading comic decade ago.

I am hoping that Marvel is going to kill off Ant-Man in the movie and thereby justify not putting him in the Avengers' movie.

There are rumors that more Avengers will appear and be introduced in the Avengers film....I'm guessing if the Wasp is included with Hawkeye or Vision they'll be done there because Marvel Studios probably doesn't think that they can hold their own features.

While the Ant-Man persona isn't the best, Hank Pym is actually a very dynamic Anti-Hero.

Ant Man = LAME.

To compare an Ant Man film to Iron Man or The Dark Knight is laughable.

From Marvel.com:
When the Scarlet Witch lost control of her powers and went insane, killing off many of the Avengers, the Vision was torn apart by an enraged She-Hulk. He was beyond any immediate repair, and thus was placed in storage. The Vision was retrieved by Iron Lad, who sought to unite a team of Avengers to help him defeat his future self, Kang. Upon retrieving him, Iron Lad downloaded the Vision's programming into his armor. When Iron Lad left his armor in a bid to escape Kang, the Vision became sentient once more and took control.

Wow, thanks Darth Waller!

I didn't know She-Hulk is filled with that kinda temper, darn, torn the Vision to pieces? In-fighting???:google So, that's what happened to one of my fave Avenger, in pieces and now back but in a hallow armor suit.

Dunno who Iron Lad is but I sure hope he isn't a teenage Iron Man. LOL

Thanks for the info, Waller! Really appreciate that!

There is more to the story then that, :lol Vision was just killed in Secret Invasion.

If they have the balls to play Hank Pym as the character has developed it'll be one really great movie.

Although I would have loved Kirkman's first adaptation to have been Invincible or The Walking Dead, this will certainly do. I really liked the comic a lot. Simon Pegg as Ant-Man...

Hank Pym the wife beater is awesome.... :rock... I'm very interested in this movie.

I know I'm looking forward to this movie, if it happens. He can go from Hank Pym, to Ant-Man, to Giant-Man, to Goliath, to Yellowjacket, and back to Hank Pym. Throw the Wasp in there, with a skintight suit, and a lot of CGI, I can't wait.

They mentioned this film at SDCC a couple of years ago along with Iron Man and Hulk. Now it's not even on Marvel's release schedule which does include Thor - a project in the same development stage as Ant-Man. I have a feeling, that no matter what Wright is saying that this project isn't on Marvel's radar. Wright could be trying to get some interest built up in it by talking it up though.
