I know this is a little different from the kind of stuff we usually handle here, but I'm a HUGE fan of the original Dick Van Dyke show form the 1960s and have been wanting a 1/6 figure of Dick Van Dyke for quite some time. I even tried sculpting a head myself, based on an existing Sideshow head, but it... didn't work out so well. I've considered commissioning a head, but I don't know if I can justify the expense if it was just for myself. But if I could get a handful of other people who were also interested, then I think it could be done. I don't mind paying the majority of the cost, as long as I could get a few others to help out.

I suppose a Dick Van Dyke head could also be used for a Bert figure (from Mary Poppins), a Caractacus Potts figure (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) or even a Night at the Museum figure, if you added a mustache. Anyway, I thought I'd see if there was any interest.

Mattel recently made a Bert doll from Mary Poppins that I am sure you can use the head from. Amazon even has it on sale now. Here's a link:

As a fellow Dick van Dyke Show fan, I'd buy a Rob Petrie figure. Laura, too. And what the heck, a Mel Cooley, too!

That Barbie version of Dick is pretty nice, actually. I've always felt he would've made a swell Joker in either the old TV series or if they made a serious film years back.

I'll look forward to those. If the head is good, I might get one, too, and try to find an appropriate '60s suit for him to wear.

And a tiny ottomon for him to trip over.

Definitely let us know what you think of the sculpt when you have this figure 'in hand'. The Amazon pics look ok, so wondering if it's better or worse in person. If it's pretty close, a repaint would be helpful, I think. :monkey1

Thanks to the wonders of Amazon Prime, I have the figure already. Starting with the good, the sculpt is very well done for a Barbie doll. It's a little cartoony, but more than good enough for my purposes. So thanks to AlanJG1 for the heads up!

It's hollow and very soft, though, and I was afraid that if I painted it and it got squeezed, the paint would crack. So I've filled it up with epoxy putty, and now it's pretty hard.

Here it is after a quick priming:

The doll itself is a mixed bag. The coat, shirt and pants are pretty good. The body is a Barbie doll body, but might be good enough for me to use for my figure, since I'm not going to be using a lot of poses.

The hat, gloves, and shoes are atrocious. The hat looks nothing like this:

The white gloves have morphed into mittens:

And the shoes are OK in shape, but made of shiny white plastic that looks very cheap:

But all things considered, it's a good deal for $20 even if you only use the head.

Nice! The outfit is a joke, but stripped down, you can tell that's actually a pretty darned nice sculpt on the head. I should order one.

Thanks for the pix so soon!

Well, I painted the head and put some clothes I had lying around on him to see what it might look like. It's not a bad likeness at all, although I do think it's a little too cartoony and soft. Still, I doubt that you would be able to get a better likeness through the cheaper sculptors like Ada Chan, so i'm happy with it. Anybody know where to get a 1/6 scale ottoman (a squarish 60s version)?

Nice kitbash, icruise. Very nice job!! What suit did you use?

I may get this from Amazon as well. (And I loooove Amazon Prime! It's the only way to shop online! :lol )

I believe I got the suit from an ebay seller in China who was selling them as ken doll clothes. I think that's what they were made for -- they didn't come off of any existing figure. The quality is surprisingly good and they work pretty well for normal 1/6 scale figures.

Fantastic repaint! Did you keep the same body? I suppose Rob Petrie doesn't need too many points of articulation, however.

Doll house furniture is probably too small for an ottomon, but maybe a couch in that scale could pass for a the proper look.
