Anyone else becoming unemployed at midnight?

Best of luck to fed employees. I'm a state employee so I know the routine to some extent. Everyone thinks that working for the government is a no stress job and that we should consider ourselves lucky to even have a job and to that I just roll my eyes.

At least in the corporate world if you were a kick ass better than average employee you could march over to your boss and ask for more than what the ******* sitting next to you gets.

Doesn't work that way in the government. I can either accept what I get or quit. Its useless to even ask for a raise no matter how many positive employee reviews I get, each individual employee is tied to each other. Its like being in a union for all the wrong reasons without getting the positive reasons.

i was told yesterday that if the medical staff has to be let go that ill be the first to go since im the last one hired here. in the short time that i started here (6 months ago) anytime extra collaterals we asked to be taken i would always be the first one to try to get while the ones that have been here the longest just sit in the back. if the shutdown happens those same people, will be sent home last

For real, I'm done, big hug high five , what ever, stop trying to pull me back in to one of your "flame wars" or what ever forum correct term is used. If you have something useful to help people, please share. My wife is affected, but thankfully I make enough to buy essentials like food and fuel until this is done and she gets back paid, but others aren't as fortunate. So go whatever team you're a fan of!!!

Military workers will still get paid. As will all essential govt workers. Even though my wife is Homeland Security, she isn't essential. Not allowed to use work servers, use work blackberry or do anything related to work during the shutdown.

My wife is affected as well. And I am far from one to start a flame war or whatever..if you look at my previous posts Im usually helping people track stuff down or posting funny links or giving product reviews. As i said in my first post I didnt want this to become a political debate....

I think so too. They should be the first to be cut off. Heaven knows most of them don't do a damn thing other than kiss up to lobbyists. Let the companies that the lobbyists work for pay their wages.

Crisis averted...for now. So, it took them 18 months to pass the 2011 budget. Now the clock starts on how long it will take them to pass the 2012 budget, lol.

The way I understand it, and I could be wrong, is that they passed a temporary measure that will get us through Thursday, with the understanding that they will pass the full budget (which has already been agreed upon by the President and the Speaker) before the temporary measure expires.

There is no way they will issue another continuation. If either side backs off from the agreement they came to Friday night, the government will shut down for sure because it will have been a major breach of trust. However, I really, sincerely, doubt that will happen. Mostly because these guys know they have to stop squabbling about the 2011 budget (which is relatively small potatoes) so they can start fighting the epic Earth-shattering battle that will be the 2012 one.

I can't wait until Oct 2011 when they issue the first continuing resolution of 2012.
