As I explore different things to collect and enjoy, I've discovered I enjoy a good book. Much in the same way I admire people who make custom action figures, I'm fascinated by how books are made.
I've re-discovered the wonderful public service that is the library, and familiarized myself with some classic novels. I've also discovered some limited run hardcover books made by some small shops. Since most of us here collect "high-end" action figures, I equate this sort of collecting to "high-end" books.
In particular, I follow Suntup Editions. Once every three months, they announce a new book. They'll typically make it in three states, a 'standard' limited to 1,000 copies, a Numbered, usually up to 300, and a Lettered, just 26 copies A-Z naturally. They are made in the US, typically bound with local book-makers, with unique typefaces that suit the novel itself, and include illustrations.
I'm also aware of The Folio Society, but not as familiar with their work. It seems comparable to Suntup, but in larger editions.
One of the things I like about books is that they never really get out-of-date the way action figures do. While production processes can improve, I just can't imagine in 5years, a "more accurate" version of To Kill A Mockingbird will be release, know what I mean?
Anyone else have any unique book collections, or favorite publishers, to share?
