After being an admirer for a long time I now sadly find Dawkins frustrating. He just can’t seem to accept that the so called left is absolutely unrecognisable to its pre-2010 (ish) form.

Without wanting to get too political here, I find it bizarre Richard could possibly recommend conservative Doug’s book about the plight of the west, when he went into booths to vote for Jeremy Corbyn who literally hates the west. It’s a complete paradox. Still, if his recommendation makes people read when they usually wouldn’t I suppose I can’t complain!

I tuned out of Dawkins myself - I mainly listened to him in his capacity as world-renowned Atheist when he was promoting The God Delusion, 'controversial' book as it was. Sort of got my quota of that particular subject back then though and now I've settled more into agnosticism. I believe neither one way or the other. For all I know there is a God. On the other hand there could easily not be. And I am not personally disposed towards faith - which will make me ineligible for heaven according to some people's beliefs but what can you do.

Just to take things back to the superficial, I’ve noticed Douglas has been spending some time in the gym and has been looking rather good. Dammit.

Yeah he bulked up. He also seems to look younger in general than he did in some older videos I saw on youtube. I think he changed his style/fashion
somewhat.

Did you see him on the Bill Maher show the other week?

@pophoody & @a-dev You guys need to chill with all that talk...

...My dollies aren't "dolls" they're "Action Figures".

I adore Douglas. I’ve known him personally for a long time, before he became pretty much the most important political thinker in the world. We even dated a little bit but very annoyingly (because he was perfect in every other way) the sexual spark wasn’t there for either of us, but it’s allowed us to stay friends and we catch up a few times a year. He’s right about essentially everything and I’m so glad he’s reaching so many.

I didn’t see Maher, I sort of can’t forgive him for his mania during you know, *that* time in recent US history. Although I know he’s changing course now. I’ll tune in and see if I can stand it.

Just to drop another name, I’ve worked with Dave Rubin and his more recent Doug interview was excellent too.

Your taste it mirrors mine. I was a staunch atheist for a while during the God Delusion but that group lost their minds. I’m now a cultural Christian and completely agnostic about the spiritual questions

Well Maher would still hold the same views on the recent US history you're probably referring to but he's concerned that the more extreme elements of the left are gonna cause the Pendulum to swing right back where they don't want it to go - and he's not afraid to tell them how stupid they are for that.

That sounds accurate to me. In college I had a rebellious phase where I wrote essays to myself and put atheist graffiti on toilet cubicle doors for other people's appreciation. I don't think I was contributing much to the world in doing that. It's out of my system now and I much prefer the agnostic position. I'm sure I used to have an argument against fence-sitting but I seem to have forgotten it and don't care to refamiliarize. :lol

Forgive me but you’re from Ireland aren’t you? Are you still there or in the US? I’m in the UK (although a British/Irish citizen!) and yes that is a concern here but the other way around. Here in the UK we’re in a mess. We’ve had it all. Far right REAL bigotry (although nothing like mainland Europe obviously) then far leftist socialism nearly bankrupted us in the 70s. Then Thatcher, who was the best PM the UK has ever had, thank God fixed us but now we’ve got the most useless ‘conservative’ (who’s not actually conservative at all) driving people back to a replay of the 70’s. I believe America will be off to the right over there and I envy that because I fear the modern left far far more than the modern right. I can’t see America flying to the far right, but it does need to become centrist or centre right to start fixing itself.

Haha. I remember ironically giving sermons to friends about the evil of Christianity like I was living during Bloody Mary’s reign. What a plonker. I can’t see any of us being burned at the stake! I really like the idea of promoting cultural Christianity though, without being annoying. It doesn’t require any beliefs or worship at all (just as we being agnostic and don’t really believe in god wouldn’t) just simply upstanding how lucky we are to live in cultures derived from it.

I do still fear one religion very much though, clearly because the vast majority of countries following it would like me dead or least thrown in the slammer for decades but I really will hold that one back on this forum!

Yes I'm from and live in Ireland.

If anyone has justification for being 'phobic' of a certain religion it's a gay person. But yes lets not go into that.

At I just add that this thread must be the most bizarre mix of subjects I’ve ever seen on a forum like this and I

Ah yes, Kylie's 'Fever' era (2001-2002) which that song was taken from (the biggest selling song of her career and one of the best selling of all time in many countries.) The imagery just for the album and singles is legendary. Minimal, striking and very sexy. The tour which went with it influenced Madonna, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake et al for its groundbreaking set pieces.

Favorite tv show in 1985, bottom right is you know who and top left is Director Krennic.
Although I wasn’t crushing on Kylie at the time, preferred Nadine Garner.
