For me, the appeal of the PT was seeing what the lightsaber designs would be for each character...more so than the corny dialogue.

I do like the PT lightsaber designs a lot. In fact, the TPM/AOTC Obi-Wan saber might be my favorite design from the entire saga.

Production Design all around was easily one of the best things about the PT. I'd lump Costume Design in there as well. I just can't get over the continuity issues of Vader and the saber designs in ROTS. Bugs the hell out of me.

I don't see why Vader's helmet changing in the four years from the events of ANH to ROTJ would break continuity anymore than his helmet changing in the 18 year difference between ROTS and ANH. The sabers would annoy me too. If I could tell the difference.

The difference is that it's much easier to accept the notion of Vader upgrading his helmet/costume between ANH and ROTJ than it is to accept him DOWNGRADING between ROTS and ANH.

Yeah, it's annoying. The saber that Anakin has (the one that Obi-Wan picks up after the duel on Mustafar) is NOT at all the same prop as the one given to Luke in ANH, which is just completely :banghead and dumb. And most of all, because it's unnecessary. Hell, they could just as easily have used one of the MR ANH sabers. I just don't get Lucas sometimes.

True. Maybe he thought the assymetry added more character and menace. :p

Actually, due to the fairly low budget in ANH, The casting came out wonky, but it was good enough to place on the big screen. Most movie props are crappy in person, but look good on the big screen. Its not much of an issue for prop collectors, but it drives costumers crazy as they have to create costumes that look BETTER than they actually were!

The Vader in your avatar is closer to what he should have looked like in ROTS. :monkey2

I dont understand why people like the wonky unsymmetrical look of the OT. It makes Vader look like a sloppy amature who couldnt even afford a nice helmet/mask.

The Vader is my Avatar is Me! Thats my RotJ Helmet. The only real issue I have with the RotS helmet (Besides the symmetry) is that it should have had the Widows Peak that was on Vaders Helmet in ANH.

Fun Note: The RotS helmet was actually made from a scan of a RotJ helmet.

Here is a (really crappy) pic showing the two. My brand new MR RotS helmet (That I won!) and my Fan Made RotJ.

One of the other issues with the RotS helmet is that you loose so much detail in the sheer BLACKNESS of it.

Actually, I feel it gives the 'used' feeling throughout the OT. Makes it seem slightly more real. And it really isn't that obvious in the movies. When I started doing the research for my own outfit, I didn't even realize that Vaders Helmet was two toned! Ask anyone, even if you SHOW them a painted helmet in person, and they'll likely say that the helmet is all black.

That was one of the main things that bothered me in RotS, that Vader would initially be put in the same armor he'd have 20 years later. I know Lucas wanted the continuity of the same suit.

But I think it would have been much cooler to have him in a more mechanical suit that echoed the ANH suit, but wasn't exactly the same.

Here's the thing, though. Of all 4 Vader suits used the one in ROTS is the most different from the one in ANH. So if he was going to scuttle continuity like that I'm with you... he should have gone with a more V1 prototype like suit.

it would have been awesome for fans if ROTS vader was given a McQuarrie vader suit. the casual viewer would have went "WTF," but what a nice gesture it would have been for the hardcore SW geek.

This is why true SW fans don't like George too much anymore. So many missed opportunities. :monkey2

That would've been sweet. It also would've been cool if he used McQuarrie's stormtrooper design.
