Well, considering that all of them are pieces by Turner, I can easily understand why. Sometimes a good artist can get by with simply re-dressing the mannequin, y'know?

Great prints, Shell! :rock

Thanks, G! :duff

I can see that happening.

One bit of great news! One bit of bad news :(

Bad

Okay, this is sh**ty. So, I'm so upset with my commission problem that I don't care to keep the dudes name a secret anymore. Ale Garza, a very talented artist who's worked on some great titles, has been giving me the run around since April. I took everyone's advice, and reworked NightShadow's recommended email into what I have below, hoping that I can just get my dam money back from the guy:

Hi

Unfortunately, I have to ask for a refund on both of our prior transactions. I was hoping our last emails were going to be a positive step in the right direction to completing our deals with me sending you my mailing address for a third time, but once again I was left in the dark. I wish this transaction could have been closed to both of our satisfactions, but for you to have agreed to complete and mail me these pieces before Christmas day and still not do it makes me very sure that you have other projects that need your attention before doing mine. Before I sent the second commission payment, I told you of my wish to gift your work to my friend before she left for a year to attend another school, and you told me you could get them both to me in time. But, it didn't happen and now it's because of my wait since April at SF Wondercon combined with the wait since October from your Facebook commission sale that I feel that you just don't have it in you to complete our agreement, even when you say you can. Please, refrain from making any excuses about you doing them, but losing them somehow, or that we've lost touch and you only need to send them to me in the mail, because it's a bit old at this point. You've been saying these things to me all year and I can't keep being stringed along like this.

So, now I have to ask that you please refund my full $360 back to my paypal account at *****@*****. I'd like you to know that even though this specific transaction may have gone bad, be assured that I still love your work and would love to obtain a sketch from you at any convention we might both be attending in the near future, if you can make the time to do it. Next week I'll be contacting Paypal to refund my second payment back to me, unless you can refund both prices to me before the weeks end on Monday, the 2nd.

Thanks

I swear, I'm so upset with the guy and legitimately worried that if I couldn't get a commission out of him, how hard is it going to be to get money back?

Good

At least this picked up my spirits! Mike Debalfo emailed me over the week with some great news about my Lady Death commission. Here's the email:

Brian Pulido is going to publish your LD commission as a variant for the Phoenix Comicon this May! That really boosts the value of the art upwards of $600! ;) no worries though we're got going to charge you that, it basically just adds value to your collection because it's now a published piece. If you ever needed to sell it for whatever reason it atleast triples the value of your commission. The catch is you can't post the image anywhere public or online until around April after Brian has the cover solicited.

Haha, so anyone that saw my post can consider themselves lucky :) I have no concern or worry for monetary gain with original art value, so even though it's nice to have a piece go up in value, it's nicer for me to have a piece that was made into a comic book cover :)

Around. Lurking for the most part posting here and there. It's not as fun posting here anymore, but I really like alot of friends here to disappear completely.

I hear ya. If it weren't for the really cool friend I've made here I'd have left long ago.

But the cool Freaks make up for the few douches that troll these boards.

Glad to see you back even if it's just once in a blue moon. :duff

Man, I'm sorry about the problem with Garza. It's a sad fact that, sometimes, some artists, regardless of his/her talent, can be unreliable. Not all artists are like this, but some are. And it's unfortunate when one of them crosses your path. In the case of those unreliables, it's a sure bet that the money you paid is already gone. I sincerely hope that you're able to recoup the loss, though.

The other bit of news, though, is fantastic. It's a bit like having a well-known musician hang out at your house, play around on your piano and suddenly find himself inspired to write that next great hit. Hold onto that piece, buddy- it's now a part of Con history!

Good one! :D

Heh. That COBRA symbol looks like it was stamped onto her chest- NOT a bad look, mind you! Very, very nice line art!

it depends how you paid. Did you pay as a gift? Did you pay with a CC through PP?

Those last two Aspen Swimsuit prints look like poor rehashes of the almighty Witchblade in Repose :/

I know what you're saying but I wouldn't necessarily say 'poor rehashes'.
I like the variations of prints, it's the slight differences and colours that make all the difference imo.
Just my opinion anyway.

True dat.

Plus I see it another way because I LOVE the colouring that Peter Steigerwald brings to these pieces. That's why I love Aspen Prints so much because they are the combined effort of two gods of art, Turner (RIP) and Peter S or Benitez and Peter S :rock

The prints themselves are gorgeous pieces of Art but to add the depth and level of detail that Peter adds, makes them mind blowing, imo.

Great prints, Shell!
Thanks pal, I'm actually considering starting a print thread, I've been looking through them all recently and I might share, I will keep you posted :wave

T's true, there are a few that try to ruin it but the good peeps far outweigh the bad here imo.

It's really good to see you posting again IC, I hope you come back more often :1-1: :rock
