Thanks guys, while I understand that its copyright infringement and agree when its a DVD or book currently available, but stopping this figure hurts no one except the fans.

I read the thread and its a bunch of guys searching the net to find fake stuff. Just seems they have a little too much time on their hands.

Dammit. Too slow, lol.

It's the thought that counts. :wink1:

It would be more than disappointing if these figures never saw the light of day. With a release date set for June I'd imagine that production is already under way, and a lot of time and money spent on getting the figure this far.

There's no guarantee that the license holders would grant a retrospective license in return for a fee - they could simply refuse out of spite or to teach a lesson - but this would be the only legitimate way Art could recoup their losses. Don't know what action could be taken if they decided to just leak the current production out to Hong Kong retailers.

Despite what some have said they confirmed or not...I feel that somehow they will figure out a way to get these out there. At least I'm hoping. I think it is pointless to keep speculating back and forth until we hear officially what is going to happen direct from Art Figure and not through word of mouth of dealers and what have you.

I think it'll go into hong Kong, but 2000ad have said themselves they will not work with art figure nor licence it.

Regardless of the income it could generate for 2000AD, Art Figures won't be able to secure a licensing deal. It's a bit like arranging for a burglar to buy your stuff, after he's been caught breaking in.

This is simply a dangerous and disingenuous way of thinking. There are people who literally make their living marketing licenses to collectibles manufacturers, if they don't stop unlicensed merchandise, then they have to find new jobs.

Licensing is a huge revenue stream for almost all creative jobs. Companies MUST defend their IP, or it becomes worthless.

Agreed. If this figure does get produced, great! But, if it gets cancelled, will I be bummed? Sure, but I'm not gonna shake my fists at AD and curse them as if they killed my family. I like AFs craftsmanship...but let's not pretend that they're not thieves. They are producing a figure without going through the proper channels.

In all honesty, I feel...dirty for POing this figure...I find myself in a dilemma. Ever since I saw the movie, I thought to myself "man, I want a sixth scale dredd figure". But he's not a MAN wearing an IRON suit, which means HT wouldn't be making it (wink wink harhar). So now we have a company producing one of my most wanted figures...but it's illegal.

I'm against piracy, and this falls right under it....but dammit if it doesn't look awesome. I know I'll be labeled as a hypocrite for being against piracy yet slapping down money for this figure....

But dammit if it doesn't look good!!

Yeah and cooking at home take job to cookers and playing with friend on playground take job to game developer....

But by buying this figure you will not steal anything. AD will not gain money with or without figure. It is like: "If I can't gain money, you will not gain it." And other side, this figure only make big vibe for this movie! People are talking about it and want it and there is more "I want sequel" before this figure. This figure will only help to movie, not harm it.
I don't say, that is good to make unofficial figure, but if there is not other choice... Or you will can give more money to customer on this board to make it...like few month before...

And big problem with piracy - when you gain from pirate better product than from legal distributor. I really hate, when I want play movie on DVD player and must wait 3 or more minutes of ads and antipiracy spots before I can get to main menu! I don't want on DVD with Batman Begins ads on Charlie and chocolate factory!

I understand what you're saying, but I was referring to the individuals that find these items and note them in the mentioned thread, what have they to gain from this? this is a forum of people searching the internet to get listings removed, some are one off items a person as created that is not 'officially' avaliable.

To use your free time to search out these listings, goes buying a passion for a character it comes across as a little sad.

Not true, if 2000AD / Rebellion are in talks with other companies regarding the licensing rights to Dredd figures and those companies now pull out due to the fact that this figure is on sale, then they could very well be losing money due to this figure being produced.

I get what you're saying about brand awareness...but it still doesn't stop the fact that these companies are making money off of properties they don't own. That's why there are laws put in place to protect companies and their IPs. Like your DVD example. You're right, bootlegs skip past the ads and anti piracy warnings...but that just means the company who produced the film DID NOT get your money. If EVERYONE bought bootlegs, that means the movie made no money and the people who were involved in the movie will eventually lose their jobs because the film company made no money and therefore can't pay anyone. see what I mean?

And let's say that one day HT crawls out of Iron Mans @$$ and gives dredd a go...the people who bought AFs dredd would feel that there's no need to get HTs version because they already own AFs version. Again, loss of sales.

With bootleg DVDs, the bootleggers just rip movies onto discs and ship them out. They did jack squat with the production of the film. In AFs case...well, at least we have people actually working on the figure itself....

But still...it's stealing, there's no two ways about it. In my case, it's just a matter of whether I can sleep at night knowing I bought an illegal product.

Well, I don't feel dirty at all!

I think that when a company has a great licence they are fools not to licence it on potential markets. Everybody loses there!

As for HT recasts, I don't feel bad at all. I usually buy the original and then recasts. And they are fool too! If they didn't want to make such a profit, I'm pretty sure a lot of people would buy originals rather than recasts, but between an original HT hs in the $100 ballpark and a recast at $40, the choice is easy and assumed!

As for original artists on these boards being recanted, same thing. I'm not a great sculptor, but I've never sold anything over $25, shipping included worldwide to let people afford as many as they want. And if they want to recast it after they've bought it, I'm fine with it. After all, they paid for it and I've never paid any licence to make my stuff, so I'm the thief in the first place!

Really, all this recast/copyright infringement police disgusts me!

That is not true! Looks on Hot Toys and Jokers... there are three types of ONE figure! One MMS and two DX and there isn't problem with selling new wave. Same with TDK Batman... And mainly, AF will make...500 figures? My local sellers is sold out their slots in one hour with many people which can't preorder it. So this make desire to have this figure and on second market their price will grow up and then, then Rebellion will come, that they making new figure and they will have more buyer than before, because people will see, how cool is have this figure and can't buy it. They can't lost with this figure! If someone say, that they will lost profit, then this one really don't know 1:6 figure market...

Of course they lose. If the companies that were in talks to make figures under licence pull out, then 2000AD lose the money they would have made from licensing the rights. There is no guarantee that those companies would want to bother making licence figures in the future once this one is out.

At times I find myself doing mental gymnastics to justify the purchasing of "illegal" items. For instance, I bought the TDK armory from toys legend. The price for it was awesome and made a hell of lot more sense when you compare that to HTs HoA....a glorified effin display box that lights up with no moving parts....but i digress. Then! HTs finally offers up their own armory (I think they just bought out TLs stock and then gave them a cease and desist...it's the same damn armory), but this time they gave us options that actually gave it value. And that's the key word here, value. You essentially get 3 figures along with the armory and the asking price made sense....ok I went off on a tangent, but that's because I'm still bitter with HTs decisions with the HoA...

My point is...I also POed the official armory. Because 1, it's official, 2, there's great value behind it.

Even though I POed Afs daedd...if a company did an official sixth scale version of dredd...I will for damn sure get it as well. Because I want to support Ad and let them know with my money that I want more of what they're offering.

True this product is unlicensed, and that's not right. I would happily buy an official figure. But here's the thing, no one appears to be interested in the license. 3A have had it for years and done diddly-squat with it. Do you know how many Dredd action figures there's been? Three as far as I'm aware, the ReAction, the Legendary heroes, and the Medicom Stallone version. I should imagine Art Figures probably thought that Rebellion wouldn't give a fig as the movie tanked and there's no other merchandise out there, as most (wrongly) assume there isn't a market. So to the Kingsley's, how's about selling your license to someone who'll actually put it to good use. You've got a huge amount of unique, amazing character's from 2000ad, let's have some of them in well produced 3d works of art. And start making some decent video games with them too while you're at it! Oh and for the record the Art Figures isn't a cheap knock off, it's fricking awesome.

You can't steal someone else's property just because you really, really, reallllly want it. If 2000 AD don't want to license a figure, that's their right, they own it. Grow up, and learn to live without your Dredd doll.
