As a seller, is there any point in insuring collectibles anymore?

Does anyone know how difficult it is to deal with UPS for something damaged during transit?

Yes, it's a pain, the insurance company UPS uses isn't honest, they will deny your claim (sort of like an HMO) but if you stick with it they will eventually settle with you and send a check.

Had it happen to me selling waaaaaaay back in ebaY's stone age days. Buyer used a stolen debit card to send payment. I got contacted by WU and had to return the money, leaving me out the item. Food for thought.

Ah, thanks. Useful to know a scenario in which I could get ****ed over.

I sold a statue this summer and customs USA decimated the art box. They cut the art & shipper boxes to pieces. The statue was fully insured. I worked out the dollar amount that he wanted back. I asked him to supply all pics (damage of box & numbers for statue too) to me and I submitted the current value; potential value and the amount I wanted refunded back to me so I can give it back to buyer. Doing all these time, there was a constant communication between him & I. He did file a PayPal claim (just in case in past the potection plan). After everything was filed, he got his money back.

Just a note, any items I sell, I take pics of it & how it's packed. I always add an additional shipper box (includes all original art box & ssc boxes). With the extra box it's either packed with foam or additional bubble wrap. The packing pics were also submitted to Canada Post.

I think as a seller, you need to take an extra step or precaution. But yes, insurance works in sellers favor.

:lecture That's my line of thinking.

he got his money back, but did you? I'm going to start taking pics when I pack my items from now on. Will have to think about the extra box idea though.

Would any of you guys sell to a total unknown on the forum with no feedback and hardly any posts - who came out of nowhere offering you a substantial sum for a figure you weren't otherwise even considering selling?

Only if it's a Nigerian Prince...

Yeah, that Cap PF status I shipped to you awhile back that got damaged in transit has fed into my fears. When the first one I ordered got shipped to me the wing got dinged up in shipment.

It's cool man. Not your fault and stuff just happens in transit sometimes. I'm sorry that our sale caused you to worry about selling statues.

That reminds me that I still need to get him fixed up at some point. I'm too lazy to deal with it.

I got my shipping cost back also. I did not lose one cent from this transaction. I think taking pics of everything I ship, helped my case. I custom made the additional box to fit around the art & shipper box. I also wrapped the box with extra bubble wrap.

Yes it's a pain in the ass, but taking extra time to pack items help me with Canada Post. I spend maybe extra $5 in materials & 30 minutes of my time to pack it well and I was on the hook for $500.

wow, I had no idea, I guess I won't use SC for buying statues anymore. That's kind of odd though cause replacements should be coming from SSC, not SC.

Yea don't buy from him if you expect statues come perfect, he will cancel your order and that makes me can't buy some of the item that is already sold out, bad service !

Anytime I sell a piece that arrives broken, when I packed it safely and securely, the buyer immediately either goes to ebay or paypal for a full refund or wants a huge partial refund. What's the deal with this? So, whats the point of insuring these things anymore? Right now, I have a seller that received a broken Predator LSB, and the damage is fixable. The guy wants a $135 refund or he threatens me with attitude to go to paypal. I had it fully insured, what are sellers to do anymore?

I think it's ****ed up to get it. Even it breaks in the mail the ****ing postal service has to come inspect how you packed it. So they might even say its your fault. I guess it would be good if they lost your package...maybe.. All that insurance money adds up So I say **** it and just get signature request

It's all about the driver, they drop off the box hard and doesn't give damn .
