i hope they do the stylized versions of the judges like in the comic. realistic versions are played out. :p

Wish list:

McMahon Dredd
Bolland Dredd
Nemesis The Warlock, O'Neil version
Jonny Alpha
Artie Gruber, Bellardinnelli version
Judge Death, Bolland

Hell Yeah! :D

Not so great news to me. The 3A figures are highly stylized - I can see them modeling the 2000AD characters off artists I hate rather than the more realistic Bolland.

you may be sorted, a post from Ashley himself -

"The characters will look like the comic version, im not redesigning them, Durham will look like Carlos first did it and so on.... these are 2000ad comic toys, not hyper realistic BS reworks to fit in with a trend or get popularity points, 2000ad toys for 2000ad fans.."

I guess I'd prefer hyper-realistic BS reworks. If they'll all be styled after their signature artists, will they even fit in with each other?

Various quotes from Ashley Wood

"it all depends on you guys, if there is demand I can make anything..."

"dredd and death are cool, but there are so many other cool, or cooler characters in the 2000ad stable, Stontium Dog could be its own toy line, Nemesis, ABC Warriors, Rogue Trooper, DR&Quinch, Slaine, Harry20, Ro-Busters etc.. each of those titles has many cool characters worth making. So many !!!"

"um yea, thats what I have been saying, ALL OF THEM, not just Dredd, Death etc''

"Im mcmahon/kennedy dredd fan, Bolland is awesome, carlos, bisley, the list grows, there will be a few, the apocalypse war dredd will have a carlos feel, stub gun included !"

Updated quote from Ashley Wood -

tharg will hit soon..

then some A.B.C Warrriors and so on, there isnt a in-stone release schedule, just as they are ready.

Rogue Trooper is a fav, Johnny Alpha, Apocalypse War Dredd, Robo Hunter, Mean Machine, Fink, City of the Damned Dredd, gronk, RO-jaws..Nemesis, Sov Judge..... gah, so much

thats a just a start, this isnt a short term license dodgy job, this is 3A and rebellion thinking far down the line.

I believe a Jan issue of 2000ad will sport a 3A 2000 AD ad !

Watching and waiting with this line.I bought the very first 2000AD back in 1977 with free "Space Spinner" on the cover!!So much good stuff coming out this year,it s going to be really tough to choose!

This guy sounds like he loves himself, and that release schedule is complete fantasy. They'll be lucky to make three of the figures off that list. Who the ____ is going to buy a Gronk figure?

Similarly unimpressed by the idea of stylised figures - okay if it's Bolland or Kevin O'Neill, but Carlos Ezquerra - who I can admire for being a prolific, if unspectacular workhorse - is not exactly a geek icon.

And Tharg for the first figure? The first figure needed to be a simple, unpretentious, good quality 1/6 Judge Dredd figure, either generic or based on Bolland's Dredd, as that's the only character that most non-fans (and even fans) will buy.

Then Rogue Trooper, Judge Death, Strontium Dog, Judge Anderson, that's it, line's over.

I would LOVE a Hot Toys or even Sideshow quality Judge Dredd figure. They don't even need to do a proper HS - just get the chin right.

It's interesting that I recognise most of the characters and stories referred to in that press release, even though I stopped reading 2000ad in the late 1980's. Has it been worth reading since then?

interesting points dcfan, from experience i would say that Ashley follows through on his statements even exceeding them in some cases on what they will do and when so i wouldn't be surprised if alot gets kicked off in 2010.

as for loving himself, i would say he is passionate about the art and how that can be presented through this medium.

based on previous 3A products i am very interested to see what they do with dredd also, again my expectations are high

That all sounds really boring and unambitious. 3A obviously doesn't do generic figures. And if they have the license for an indefinite period of time, why would they stop at just the five most popular characters? And Tharg makes perfect sense as the first figure if you've ever read the comic. He introduces every issue. If you're a fan of the comic, then what's not to like about figures that are being made in the visual style of the comic? I don't want a watered down "generic" version of those characters.

I am - or was - a fan of the comic, at least, how it was in the late 70's and 80's. But my preference would be for well made generic figures rather than stylised versions and I don't see why that means they could be described as 'watered down'. I also think stylised versions will put off casual fans - I'd rather they were drawn in.

And actually, the visual style of the comic was never uniformly excellent - there's a big difference between the quality of the artwork produced by Kevin O'Neill and Brian Bolland and that produced by Mike McMahon and Carlos Ezquerra, which I found scrappy and unappealing. Not 'quirky' - just bad art. The storytelling was usually better than the artwork.

As for Tharg, again, why start with a character that was always a bit of a joke and has minimal popular appeal?

Have to say I agree. I bought the comic from issue 1 to 1000 but was put off by bad art and poor stories eventually. Bolland Dredd was always the best in my opinion.

As for the first figure, if Tharg is such an icon why wasn't there a Tharg film instead of a Judge Dredd film? Get the main figure out, do it well and draw as many fans in as possible. Later on (as with a Star Wars line) release other figures that although are part of the history, do not have as much mass appeal but may still be bought by collectors. Dredd, Mean Machine, Judge Death/Anderson are all good but what about the robot figure from the Mechanismo story? ABC Warriors would suit the Ashley Wood/3A line as well maybe.

I'm really interested in well done 2000AD figures ( I got the Medicom Judge Dredd which is ok but falls way short of what it could have been) and am looking forward to what is produced. Hope it goes as well as you hope Ashley.

regards

I'm really excited about this line, finally the 2000ad universe has a shot at getting some decent figures made.

Unfortunately, like a lot of you I'm worried about the stylised style 3A will be going for. The medium of comics has advanced way too far these days and the figures might look too comicey instead of just cool figures.

On the release schedule I think he needs to take on each universe separately and not just pull in caharacters randomly from each.

First I want to see a Dredd universe. " Dredd, Death, Mean Machine, Sov Judge, Hondo Cit judge, Lawmaster, and the Judge judicial Squad ( They would be awesome!!!) etc...

Then I want to see some Rogue Trooper, not a whole lot maybe Rogue, Traitor general, a couple different nort variants.

And Strontium dog, ABC warriors and such to follow on.

I want each universe to get a good representation and not just the main characters from a select few.
Although have to say I would love a Sinister and Dexter figures!

Noone is boing to buy a gronk figure.......

As for Tharg as the first figure, its a weird choice but,it will give us a good idea of what to expect and he is the only character that has been in the mag since the first issue so it is kind of justified even if he is irrelevant.
