Woodsy, Enjoy Galadriel! She is a beaut, and you won't be disappointed! I don't think you were the imeptus behind the "feature" but I think that some of us looked back to past Q&A's and were a little too eager about the SS LOTR offerings that have been hinted at for 2011.

Sorry guys, but I'm afraid I'm the guy responsible for the high hopes. SS did tell me to watch for a LOTR "feature" during the 12 Days of Christmas and I somehow got it in my head we would be seeing a video.
It looks like the sneak peek glimpses of Arwen, Legolas and Gimli were that "feature". I agree, nothing we saw was new, but I do think there is a huge difference between seeing a conceptual drawing and a completed statue. And obviously that fantastic looking group shot has done a great job in revitalizing interest in a line that many thought was dead.

On a sidenote, I received a package from SS the other day, attached with a note in which they thanked me for candidly expressing my opinions and for sticking with the LOTR licence, during the good times and the bad. There are certainly times when I am extremely frustrated with SS, but I do love their products, and I can think of no other company [ collectible or otherwise] that gives back more to it's loyal fanbase. Thank you SS!

You are correct Josh, according to Dusty, Legolas is supposed to be a Jan. pre-order.

Thats what I thought but I couldn't remember if I was remembering correctly.

I wonder how long it will be before Legolas and Arwen go up for order - and more importantly how much of a gap there will be in between them.

Sideshow said they would releas ethem every other month.
That would mean about 5-6 a year.
Which would be great.

They started well with Aragorn and shortly after Gandalf, but now it has been 6 months ...
Not two like they originally said ...

Congrats on your SS Galadriel Xmas gift woodsy. She is a nicer piece than she is given credit for IMHO . All she'll need is a quick touch up on the lip colour and that's it .

So glad SS is noticing your candidly expressing your opinions. Hope this gift will inspire you to continue and even increase such expressions in 2011 .

In other words, keep up the good work mate .

Yeah, I remember the original rate of release, but that is not realistic at this point. In any case, now that they are effectively down to two distinct lines; I hope we see things pick up some, esp with two certain films on the horizon.

I'm in the same boat as Seaward. That kind of timing is just about fine by me too.

Legolas I believe is supposed to be this month. If I remember correctly or I thought I read that anyways.

I read that they were putting him up for order some time soon after SDCC, unless something else has been said that i missed.

Arwen could be a purchase. Not totally sure honestly but I'm leaning that way. I do love the look of these maquettes. For me personally they just have a really good look to them.

Some do, but especially when looking back at the concept art sketches they seem to be pushing the 'super-hero' cape-blowing-in-the-wind look a bit too much. People will roll their eyes at this but i prefer a more 'realistic' looking statue, which is what Strider is and why he's a MUST buy. Some characters can get away with having extravagent poses, like Gimli and Legolas, but GTG really throws me.
Also the same for me RE: Arwen!!

That was referring to when he would be shown. I don't know what slowed that down to this long afterwards but alas its not much a worry now.

I dont personally think you could be more wrong. They're giving them a bit of flow to them than just static piece after static piece. The SSW line had several of those as well. For me personally I like that they have some movement to them it adds something to a collection which of course is against you wanting just static boring stand there poses.

I agree, I like the more dynamic poses. Personally. However I still don't know how into this line I will be. I have all the PF fellowship so far and I don't know if I can justify the space / money for this line in addition to the PF.

I tend to agree that the poses make the pieces a bit more interesting to look at. Will poor Gimli ever not be swinging that damn axe though?

The 'essence' of a Hobbit is quiet and unnassuming (to me). Each of the 4 mentioned can be shown as happy go-lucky young Hobbit's with the 'action hero' poses left for the non Hobbit characters. Or; Frodo can be shown accepting the task at the round table at the meeting of Elrond; Sam can be shown with fists raised (at Strider) in the PP; Pippin could be in Lothlorien cloak and Hobbit attire throwing rocks at Uruks and Merry could be posed about to strike the ML at Pelennor.

It's the very nature of plain, unnassuming Hobbits that maybe makes them unappealling to some people, even if they are dressed in battle armour. They are the heart of the tale for me and I would love to see them just as they are when we first fully see them...but as PF's first!

Dave, You are a collector after my own heart! I hope that we see the Hobbits in their more true-to-character outfits as part of the Premium Format line, as even the simple, rustic clothes the hobbits wear represents really well as part of the PF line. I hope we get to see Sam as one PF offering, and since the hobbits do appear more unassuming, that we get Merry and Pippin as a two-pack.

Since the maquette line is more dynamic, this seems like the perfect opportunity to offer the hobbits in their more heroic moments, and the ones you have described above are perfect for the maquette line. I would be really happy to see both Merry and Pippin in their Rohan and Gondorian armor in the maquette line, provided that Pippin doesn't look like he just filled his nappy. Sam and Frodo don't change as much, but the wear and tear on their normal costumes could reflect the rigors of the journey!

Thanks guys! It was a totally unexpected and classy move by SS. Agreed, it does look much better in person though I'll definitely have the lips repainted. Hopefully SS will take some of our concerns to heart. If so, I predict a great year for all LOTR collectors.

For me, it wasn't a Gondorian armoured Pippin I found unappealing....a statue of Pippin soiling himself on the steps of Gondor I did find unappealing however.
