Asmus actually posted a photo on their FB page indicating that the folding down of the hood on Frodo and Sam was deliberate to make the hood sit against the shoulders better. For me, I think they should've just kept it the same as Merry and Pippin.

Asmus' original FB post on the cloak hoods:

Hope you are all enjoying the last couple of days of 2016!
We want to take the time to show some tips when your are posing Frodo and Sam.
As seen in the picture, the tip of the hood is attached to the side so when the figure is wearing the cloak, the hood will rest on his back naturally.
Please do not attempt to rip/tear it open or the fabric will be damaged permanently.

Thank you for the support you have for us in the past years and we wish you all a wonderful new year!

Can't say the glued hood looks better. Time to get some M+P replacement cloaks.

This has to be top 5 action figure wtf moments. I dont remember seeing the original asmus post, but wouldnt likely expect them to use actual glue, maybe just a stitch or two that could be unpicked.

Really wish they had just stitched it so it could be removed if desired. Especially since the Merry and Pippin don't have this.

It was a bad desicion to glue the hoods down.....at least I wasn't planning on putting the hoods up. It's nice to have the option though

That's so stupid...so you can't even make them wear the hoods?

To me the "stupid" part was choosing these cloaks instead of their early movie traveling cloaks which only Frodo comes with. That was stupid. The glues lorien cloaks don't bother me as i won't ever have my hobbits wearing them.

If it weren't for the dopey heads these figures would be home-runs... but the likenesses just kill it for me.

Still, huge step up from the Sideshow figures... the likeness is better on Sideshow, but that's it.

I don't know, the Sideshow look a bit like porcelain dolls to me. And I only have the Sideshow right now. Just been a long time since I actually looked at them.

I need Asmus Frodo.

I think SSCs Sam still wins on likeness. A repaint would really make it shine.

Asmus kills them on the cut & sew...but SSCs figs are old and the fabrics were thick as molasses! They look better de-bulked like Dresky has his.

I was ready to replace my 9 year old SS Frodo and Sam and as well as my custom Pip and Merry with the Asmus versions but the head sculpts were not an improvement so sticking with my older sets.

Head sculpt is key for me, in regards to figures. One would expect to be blown away by a 9 year difference in sculpting and paint application technologies but this is not the case.

I do appreciate the more "to scale" sizes of the hobbits, though.

Thanks for the side by side comparison! Asmus did a stellar job on the clothes.

Sure the Asmus head sculpts look better, the SSC are 10+ years old and we're 1/3 the price!

But I still don't think the Asmus ones are close enough in likeness for me too buy. If you took the Sam head sculpt off the body and looked at it by itself I wouldn't know who it was.
If they were updated head sculpts I'd snatch these up in a heart beat.
