Yeah, like a lot of other folks, I actually ended up accidentally breaking the little cap off the handle of one of the axes trying to get it through the loop. But was able to glue it right back on once I got it through. The only downside is that I won't ever be able to get it back out again unless I break it back off or cut the belt loop. But that's fine for me as he comes with plenty of other axes I prefer to pose him with.

The axes are unbelievable - one of the reasons I PO'd another Gimli. I figure Thorin can borrow one as well as he was using an axe in AUJ. Also Gimli is just IMO an incredible figure:love. I don't know if and when ASMUS will do more dwarves:(

And SSC has an "almost sold out" notice on Gimli today. Down the road be this will be a fig that folks are crying over for not picking up!

I agree the axes are awesome.
This will be one of those figures, 100% agree.

Got My figure yesterday and WOW! quick question is there any way realistically to get the axes on his belt without breaking something?

Hello there new here just read some of comment and i got same issue, the piece with axe even unglued and fell i have asked for spare parts but not sure what ill receive since as you all mention the problem is size of both axes compared to the hole size (hope im clear lol)

Hi willowcom:)! Hope you find a lot of good picture and info here! Far as I can tell hard to say with ASMUS - they are a pretty new young company but they try really hard and engage with the fans more than a lot of companies.

Beautiful costume work, too...from what you describe I'd pull out the E6000 adhesive or similar. But yeah, when I get Gimli #2 I'll go to work with him with a hair dryer to see if I can soften and expand that belt loop a bit.

Hope ASMUS can help you out! I'll probably pose one Gimli with the throwing axes anyway, and try to track down the right 1/6 scale pipe (or make one) so I can have a relaxed Gimli. (And just checked SSC and Gimli is waitlisted there - rightly so IMO!)

I just got mine from Big Bad Toy Store yesterday. Gimli and Sam.jpg

Did yours come in an Asmus shipper? Mine arrived in just an unsealed art box in a plastic bag. No numbered insert either. All the Asmus figures I’ve gotten in the last couple years have been sealed in an Asmus printed shipper. Just wondering if something fishy Happened with mine.

Some HTs direct from Asia don't have shipper boxes - my Kylo Ren from SSC didn't have a shipper. I'd ask tho if it's bothering you.

Yeah I asked but SS won’t give me a straight answer. The rep just said they don’t guarantee figures will come with shippers, and she wouldn’t look into it any further. I know Threezero figures that I get through Sideshow never have shippers, but Asmus always has.

If anyone has definitely gotten a shipper with their Gimli, please let me know where you bought it. I may get it there instead since all my other recent LOTR figures have them, however OCD that makes me!

I contacted 5 or so sellers when Gimli was first released and every seller except one told me that Asmus didn't provide a brown shipper.

Heres the seller:

hi friend
Thanks for your message

I didn't end up purchasing from him so who knows if this is true.

Mine did not have a brown shipper. BBTS did have it packed in another box and surrounded with bubble wrap.

What's the overall consensus on Gimli? I've always wanted to collect this line, but I've always been put off by the subpar head sculpts and paint apps. That said, it seems like Asmus has turned a corner with Gimli, Thorin and the upcoming Eomer.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger and getting Gimli, but before I do, are there are particular pros/cons that I should be aware of before I buy?

The only cons I have with Gimli are:
1) be careful putting the axes onto the belt area on the left, where the holes in the belt are very tight. You could split that part off the belt if you're not careful.
2) The chainmail material is a little stiff and may crack over time if bent for posing.

Other than that, I think the figure is pretty damn awesome!

I wasn't collecting LOTR - ordered Gimli #1 based on Michael Crawford and other reviews. IMO figure is so good at this price point I PO'd a second one - the diecast axes alone almost make it worth purchase.

Agree the front belt loop is too tight for the axe end - u may be able to warm up and stretch. I snapped my front loop partially at base but now it sort of works as a plastic clip *shrug* u don't notice and I got axes the way I want. Some folks wanted real chain mail armor and have customized.

For me very minor con vs. the sheer excellence of the sculpt, the great transition from rooted hair to skin (not harsh), the thick, what feels like high quality wig, the fig sturdiness (heavy for his size), great paint, ability to pose and stand, and outstanding details from boots to the diecast axes and cloak.

I'd never say folks should get a fig OMG you will lose out etc. IMO collecting is a real personal thing + the money:horror. But IMO Gimli is staggeringly good at this price point. Had a heck of a time sourcing Legolas at retail recently; older ASMUS stuff on the 'bay is all marked up.

Think that if folks miss the retail on this and then see him in hand they'll cry later if they were interested in Gimli, honestly. Not even as favorite a character for me vs some others:google and I still ordered another:cool: (besides, Thorin can borrow a few of those axes). Gimli is that good.:love

Thank you both for the feedback. I'll probably pull the trigger within the next week and pick one up since I'll be getting the Eomer and new Gandalf when they're available.

Looks to me like Asmus is teasing diorama from the Mines of Moria scene. Probably the next upcoming release after their Haberdashery diorama line.

I’d buy it in a heart beat. I love the look Legolas, Aragorn and Gandalf all have on their diorama bases. It makes them feel like little moveable PF statues.

From the Ask Asmus thread from a few months back:

Hi Asmus. :wave

Do you have any plans to sell any Lord of the Rings/Hobbit diorama pieces? Like your Hateful Eight Haberdashery door?

I noticed in the background of your Gimli photos that you seem to have made a Balin's Tomb. Was that just a one-off for the photos or is it possible you'll produce that in the future?

Yes, but diorama isn't in our contract, so we are working on it at moment.
It is the tomb of Balin at the background, you have good eyes~

Do these new pics mean Asmus now have the rights to do dio pieces? Hope so!
