I guess I’m just hoping the value is there. The proto looks amazing and it’s definitely a huge leap in quality for Asmus. But I feel this is a new price point for a mass produced 1/6 figure that may cause others to follow suit. Have you seen what Star Ace is asking for their rehashed “Halloween” versions of the 3 kids? Yikes. They’re really going after that Hot Toys money. Anyway, please wow us at SDCC, Asmus. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.

we did a mock up of Bag End door,
Unfortunately it is way too big to consider as a base....
Well shoot. Was hoping for the door. But I'm interested to see what it is then...Im assuming it's the gate then?

Also could I request the Bag End Door as a separate release as a diorama? Like the Hateful 8 door?

I was planning on just building one myself like I did with my Myers Porch. But I kinda wanted to hang tight in hopes you produce one...

You can’t blame Star Disgr-Ace for taking advantage of those willing to support their over-priced crap. When sales die, so will that company.

I'm in for the figure no matter, but my expectations/hopes for the base have been appropriately lowered.

Honestly, I'd rather have them focus more on the actual figure quality For this one.
Dont want $100 diorama and $250 figure. I want $350 worth high-end figure.

:lecture

As for the horse-drawn cart, I was referring to it being offered as a separate release and NOT part of this Gandalf figure.

i Was hoping for the bag end door also but whatever, I’m most interested in Gandalf and the diorama or stand or whatever it is would probably stay in the box anyway.

As I recall, Asmus mentioned a while back in another thread that they didn't actually have a license to produce diorama pieces. That was the reason they weren't able to sell the Balin's tomb proto that we've seen seen glimpses of. However, they did just finish re-upping their license with the studio, so maybe -- maaayyybe -- they've added dioramas to their license?

Asmus? Any chance you've widened your license to include dioramas?

Now THIS is the base/diorama i would buy!

If they don't make it, just get creative. How hard could it be to get it as a print ? There are sign makers online who can print that on 3-5mm plastic with the clear bit as transparent. Then you have something suitable for backlighting. Make a small backing frame, whack in some led lights and you'll have it exactly to the size you need.

Plenty of online YouTube videos how to make light boxes.

Understood.
And my comment was not specific reply to your comment. just a general one.

It looks like they already list "display base with Hobbiton diorama" in the product description, so I guess they can't back out now.

Doesn't that just mean it's a Doorway already thou?

No matter what they make, it should fit in the default Detolf. Otherwise more than half of the diorama base would be either collecting dust outside (with the Crown figure) or sleeping in the box.

If the sculpt and hair is close to the prototype then it was worth the price just for the head. $350 would be an incredible bargain for the whole figure. Even if the hair and paint is off for the finished product. It would still be an amazing deal.

They obviously nailed the sculpt. So, worst case scenario you could get a customizer to repaint and hair for 350-500 and have a grail figure. Totaling around $700-850. You really can’t lose with this thing. Seems like they are trying their best to make a high end figure while still appealing to the mass produced crowd. They should be getting more praise. This type of product is unheard of until now. I can’t understand the people that aren’t on board with this.

The door would easily cost $150 on its own. It could come as a carded backdrop in a regular release but expecting a huge, partial structure thrown in as an accessory is like hearing that Gothmog comes with a Peleanor Fields base and concluding that we’re getting an in scale Grond. Even the gate to Bilbo’s place is probably expecting too much. It’s most likely just a patch of grass with a little firework sticking out of it.

Asmus, I’d totally buy LOTR dioramas so please do let us know if the license has been expanded.

Well when they list "diorama" expectations rise. Sure the Door may be asking much. But looking at their past "diorama" bases I dont think the gate is asking too much honestly....

Like I said earlier, I'm totally fine without the diorama.
Maybe just ground base with "Hobbiton" flowers, grasses and a small "Hobbiton" tree then. :D
